I dunno, I've beleived for a long time now, that Kojima's plan is to make games that have this theme of bridging the future and the beginning of mankind in some way. That's why we got all that "primal" caveman-esque imagery (the handprints for example) he's also been heavy re-tweeting Matrix themes and real-world historical themes.
Quite frankly, to me the trailer is man, naked, in his purest form, much like the first man on earth. It seems to me he's going to go for a "mans first experience of..."

ok here's my theory based on what i've researched about Ludens from "The Time Wanderers", what i know about Auguries of Innocence, and the mission statement on the kojipro webpage
the quote from Auguries of Innocence suggests to look for the bigger picture in small things. the complete poem has themes of innocence and evil, especially human wrongdoing.
humanity has somehow fucked up earth and one of the major themes will be the eventual restoration of nature and the constant human desire to "create" in any circumstance. I think Ludens will be a part of the game despite Kojima saying they won't be, (you cannot trust this man) and will perform experiments on the remaining life on Earth, one of these experiments being something to do with life and death with the umbilical cords on all the animals. Though in "The Time Wanderers", Ludens were human, i believe they will be more alien in Death Stranding. on Normie Reedus's dog tags, there are some equations for some quantum physics and space shit, so it'll probably take place in space and have a broad scope for setting. Reedus might be a Luden himself as he has 6 dog tags and there are 5 figures at the end. He also doesnt have a belly button suggesting he isn't human or was born through unmatural ways.
I know there's a lot more to look at but this is what I've managed to come up with.

I have nothing against famous actors in videogames per se, but I just don't get the point. You have VAs and motion-capture artists that can do everything an actor can, except they probably don't cost as much.
And having Norman Reedus or any actor in your videogame, while it's certainly cool and the likeness impressive, simply isn't likely to be a selling point for the vast majority of people.
Now, I thought having him in a new Silent Hill was retarded, because the series has always shone due to its original and well-designed, realistic characters. Bringing some famous actor into it that everybody recognises takes away from the originality that the series stands for.
