In all honesty, it's okay. 1 and 3 were decent but 2's playsets were mostly fucking boring because they ditched level design for open world and too much shitty combat. 1 was platforming fun and 3 had better combat so fighting dudes was decent.
The problem from my view was that the creator mode was shitty and clunky and never got much better, to create or download creations. Playsets were the main gameplay for most people and they were all just "okay", nothing more or less. If they did a fourth game it should've had a strong unified campaign like Skylanders and have playsets be sub-stages based off it.
But instead they cancelled the whole project and so after the Alice in Wonderland and Dory toys then the series is dead.

You can still have fun with it if you have some play sets, just no online stuff. You can still create stuff but not share.

It mainly means the free PC version (which was the best version, use the codes the toys come with and you get the full game without buying the $80 starter set) and mobile port are not getting any of the remaining new content, the online stuff is or will be dead and there will be no more new toys after the Alice and Dory stuff this year.

No, you can still play the game and all the playsets if you have it for console. The meat of the game is the playsets anyway and you can just buy all the toys secondhand.

The building and (particularly) game making aspect is way too convoluted for the target audience, and the fighting is too simplistic for older audiences - infinites everywhere, ranged >>>>>> melee, most enemies are heavily vulnerable to circle strafing. Also it's kinda expensive for what you're getting unless you shop around or abuse web codes. The building is on a strict grid system too, which is a bit annoying because you don't have as much precision to make weird platforming challenges.
Oh yeah, and you can't mix and match characters from one playset into another playset because Disney is hugely protective. It leads to the odd situation where Disney characters are second-class characters in their own game. Really, the whole game is in a quandary where it doesn't really take advantage of it's whole potential and doesn't know what it wants to be.
Most of the figures look alright though (and the faces on the more realistic and humanoid characters tend to be better than those on similar Amiibo), the Star Wars playsets are alright (if a bit short) if you stick to a melee-only lightsaber user, and the Raceway/Inside Out addons at least try to do things other than combat.
