Played Zoo Tycoon and Alice. I'm thinking something between roughly 2002 and 2009. My pc isn't complete shit, I can play Fallout 3 and Deus EX HR on low settings. No need to go back to pre-2000 graphics.

Old school since you can download HD mods that work better than the actual HD edition, plus the expansions which are pretty good. The campaigns will last you a while and the map/scenario editor is remarkably easy to figure out and use. There's a mod called Horn of the Abyss that's basically on the same level as the original game in terms of quality, one of the best mods I've ever played honestly.
