This makes sense. Back in gen 1 and 2, it was obvious what type Pokemon were, so it was clear what was effective and what was not. Now that Pokemon are glorified Digimon, it's basically impossible to tell what typing they have. As a veteran of the series I found myself guessing what moves would be effective most of the time in gen 5 and 6.

Pokemon has always been casual, you could beat the game with your starter alone and not die a single time. The only exception to this rule was yellow because brock so you were forced to go out of your way to get a pidgey or butterfree.
