Honestly Normandy wasn't that big of a deal until the ship became as much a character as, say, the Millennium Falcon or Nostromo. It worked as an extension of Joker but also as representative of the whole crew. It wasn't just Shepard that died in the beginning of 2, Normandy did too. But both characters find a way to be mascots for the series. The Tempest has big shoes to fill.

Mainly the world building and the combination of 3rd person RPG + space. I love the feeling i get from the ME combat, planetary exploration, the biotic powers, the tech, the aliens are cool and iI like the romances and dialogue even if it was awkward a lot of the times. This is also why i love the Witcher trilogy (minus the Sci-Fi space setting of course, medieval is great too). I'm a sucker for these things - i know some people hate them, that's their business. But to me these games are extremely immersive.
Oh and, i only played ME like 2 years ago for the first time - from 1 all the way to 3 with all DLC installed, and i instantly loved it. All i knew is that 3 had an "ending badly received by fans" and that's about it. Different strokes man..

My favorite moment in any ME game was in Omega at the beginning of ME2. But it wasn't because of anything in ME2. I was just so excited about the possibility. A chance to play a whole new Mass Effect! It was all downhill from there but I remember the power of that excitement.
My favorite moment in ME3 was when you cured the genophage and they had the good taste to play the intro menu music from ME1. It was such a great callback and made you feel like it was the culmination of a story, but at the same time, my good feelings about that were all connected to the atmosphere, creation and the music of ME1.

haven't played those - tried when it was too late and they looked bad.
I did feel a tonal, mechanical and narrative shift in each game. But personally, and literally unhindered by any opinion at the time, i thought to myself when ME2 started "woah holy shit this is the craziest opening to a game i've seen yet - i love it" And then i kept recruiting my crew, do side missions etc..typical rpg shit, but i never hated it - it felt exciting.
In 3 the start seemed natural considering 2 ends with the Reapers entering the galaxy cinematic. The invasion seemed cool and destructive and sad. Overall i loved 3, the feeling of being in charge of uniting all the races, all your choices affecting what they will do. Oh and first time, Tali killed herself which rekt me hard - did not fucking see it coming. The ending felt new to me - it was the first game where i had to make such difficult choices. But i never felt actual hate towards it. The choices i made until then were important for my crew and the people i met.
Of course, now /v/ fucking corrupted me and i feel like they could have handled the games better. But i still love them and i am still hype. So this is how i feel about ME. Whoever can't deal with it..their problem.

I played near-perfect and generally beloved games aplenty, such as the Dark Souls franchise, the Witcher, Gothic 1&2, Risen 1 - they are all amazing 3rd person RPGs and i love all of them, but they are all flawed more or less - many even have entire installments that are bad.
If it makes you feel any better, these are also about the only games i actually paid for. I never buy stuff i don't like, so my steam library has like 15 games, GOG has 3 and Origin 3 + the occasional "on the house" one.

Well, no. It literally doesn't matter what colour ending Shepard got. That was hundreds if not thousands of years ago by the time Andromeda happens. So the milky way doesn't matter. Even if they have that cereberus quantum entanglement communicator, the chances of the other end existing in the milky way is almost zero. The Andromeda crew are on a suicide mission.
