I'm in the same boat, OP.
The last few years this place has been fucking terrible. It was in decline from about 2012, but honestly Gamergate fucking killed it.
First it brought a ton of Redditors over to shit the place up. Then it was banned and a large proportion of the population left to other chans. If/when they came back the place was just completely different. Any trolling/flaming/arguments devolved into people crying "goobergrape" or "SJW".
Since then /v/ is one of the most boring boards. LOL threads get deleted very quickly, completely on-topic threads are deleted, any deviation is dealt with really quickly. Basically this board has been so heavily moderated for so long that it's lost its soul.
Don't get me wrong I know this is a place to discuss video games, but the secondary threads were what made this a fun place to be. You could go from talking about RDR to discussing the best wild west themed porn, for example. Now it's just pretty bland and dry.
