Not a bad thing honestly, Halo is probably the only serious sci fi FPS series. We need more of it, the genre certainly deserves far more experimentation than fucking WW1/2/modern setting for the millionth time.
Space era Sci fi is severely underdone in general along with cyberpunk because of budgets, not enough high budget movies - games in the genre because it's harder to make a futuristic universe from scratch rather than just rehashing past-modern settings where you know how everything looks and sounds.

DESU the story modes in COD's were actually cool but the multiplayer is just a slot machine 6 vs 6 tiny arena compared to most games out there it feels claustrophobic.
