It's already flopped. There just isn't enough NX popularity right now for it to be successful. That and the console is going to have a Tegra mobile chip, so it's pretty obvious on how that will turn out.The only people who will buy it are the usual Nintendo diehards but that isn't enough to sustain a console.

Honestly there's no reason to buy consoles anymore unless it has a gimmick. Consoles were viable up until about ten years ago because it was cheaper to buy the console over a PC for the equivalent amount of computer power.
The last two generations are barely even consoles anymore, just small form-factor PC's that act as media hubs. They're Rokus with specs.

You don't understand the manufacturing process. They don't make the same number of Wii U's as they do the PS4 and Xbone, because it sells less. They make as many as they need to to keep up with the small demand. With every Wii U sold they make profit. So while the Wii U has failed to meet expectations, they still profit off of it because it's not sold at a loss. The Wii U also has the best attachment rate of the three consoles, so they make more money in games sold per console.
