the only good game previously was 3. 1 was a resident evil game with a sword, 2 was garbage. 4 was barely half a game.
It has the same level of humor as the Deadpool movie. Everyone loved the latter but hated the former and I don't get why.
For the record I thought DmC was a shit Devil May Cry game, I just found this sorta odd.

Game isn't terrible as most people say, but it still isn't good either. It tried too much to re-invent the wheel and ended up becoming an octagon instead. As a DMC game it's like a 4/10 but as its own action game it's a 6/10.
Kill me, but DmC's style appealed to me more than the original. I liked the music, bosses, edgy atmosphere and so on, it was more aimed at me, a white guy, rather than Japs with their odd sense of aesthetics.
If you just want a fun beat em up with some funny foul language, it's fantastic. Try to follow the story or mythos or linking it back to the series, then it'll lose a few points. But hey, at least we know who has the bigger dick.

That would be giving too much credit to Capcom.
They were serious about dumping the original franchise if DmC succeeded, and they clearly expected it to be a massive hit based on their initial sales expectations.
They could pull off that "return of classic coke" campaign now, but that was never their original intention.

The problem is really simple. Capcom wants large numbers for every game they make. DMC sells better in the west than japan. Capcom, completely unaware of what their western fans actually think, believe that outsourcing to a western dev will give them high AAA-game tier sales.
This is a problem every big japanese developer has. So many of them don't bring their games over on their own initiative because they think no one in the west will buy them, because they're so out of touch with their western fanbase. Elsewise, they do stupid shit like outsource to western devs and ruin their IP's identity.
