Honestly, probably just s simple prosthetic to control the mouse and keyboard macros for m1 and m2. But mainly to play turn based games. You could also go full handy and use mouth/foot controls. That would actually work better in the first scenario; stump with a cage to control the mouse and foot pedals for mouse clicks.

Why is it so hard for some guy to just invent a robot hand? All you have to do is make it so the nerves in your arm can control the hand and that's it.

I'm majoring in biomedical engineering, so I'd dedicate my career to arm prostheses.
I'll never be as good as this nigga though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Herr

>Following months of surgeries and rehabilitation, Herr was doing what doctors told him was unthinkable: climbing again. Using specialized prostheses that he designed, he created prosthetic feet with high toe stiffness that made it possible to stand on small rock edges the width of a coin, and titanium-spiked feet that assisted him in ascending steep ice walls. He used these prostheses to alter his height to avoid awkward body positions and to grab hand and foot holds previously out of reach. His height could range from five to eight feet. As a result of using the prostheses, Herr climbed at a more advanced level than he had before the accident, making him the first person with a major amputation to perform in a sport on par with elite-level, able-bodied persons.

Best models are incredibly expensive as is and they are nowhere near real limbs.

Even if prosthetics that are almost as good or better than real limbs will be devloped during your lifetime, only a selected few will be able to afford them.

>>340855560
Many people who are into this topic have the same attitude, because it's basically the logical direction it would go. The only two problems we have at the moment are the energy it takes (i.e. we need better batteries/energy sources before they become truly permanent replacements), and connecting nerve endings in the main body.
Look at MGR, behind the insane cyborg ninja shit the whole idea is that the characters who have replaced their bodies with artificial versions are insanely powerful compared to humans (even Sam, who only had his strength increased rather than additional senses/abilities added).

Very possible. Imagine a person who has lost their legs in a war being able to connect a set of specialised swimming legs and enjoy diving with the agility of a dolphin. Imagine a blind person being given vision like that of an eagle, and able to see amazing beauty in nature at insane levels of detail. Imagine a person who has a failing heart being given a mechanical one that allows them to finally compete in a marathon.

The world of augmentations and prosthetics is almost limitless, and the capability of those who have them may even be limitless.

You know what they say about jokes that need to be explained. Honestly I don't think anyone laughed at all, but here's a joke of my own, anyway.

What happened to the man who couldn't stop coughing?

He ended up in a COFFIN!
>>
>>340856346
I understand everything else except sight.
Why is it worse than losing sight? At least with sight, you can still experience all forms of non-interactive media just the same, and you could get by in daily life by using prosthetics.
Without sight but with both hands you're reduced to audio and braille for everything.
>>
>>340856256
No, I know how damn complex the body is.
What I'm saying is that once (if?) we reach a sufficient level of technology, replacing limbs with more powerful versions would be easy. Technically it already is, but we don't have the ability to recreate nerves yet so they can't be controlled quite as carefully.
Organs, blood vessels, brains etc. are far more complex, so it will be a VERY long time before we will be able to replace those, I agree.

As for wheels, they would be quite easily added on afterwards.
Hell, just stick some wheels on your legs and add a simple hand crank. Bam, cyborg with efficient wheels. They would look kinda retarded though.

>>340856337
>i don't think anything naturally evolved to have wheels
And you are correct. It's because that wheel, while extremaly energy-efficient, are only possible to use in an extremaly specific kind of enviroment.

> but we still prefer cars over walking machines for various reasons
The thing is cars are separated from your body. They are tools.

That's the point. Why would I want a prosthetic that makes me faster/stronger/whatever but also requires a fuck ton of maintenance and is not as compatible as my real limb, when I can just get into car or use lifting equipment?
>>
>>340856431
Trying to center the whole conversation on it makes you look autistic. It's like if some guys were having a debate about the importance of study and one guy says that the brain is like a muscle in that it benefits from regular exercise, only for the other guy to not understand the concept of a simile and go on a tangential rant about the fundamental differences between brain and muscle tissue.

>Imagine a person who has a failing heart being given a mechanical one that allows them to finally compete in a marathon.
We're nearly there already. Ones that let a person live while waiting for a transplant have been around for quite a while now, and permanent ones are in the prototype stages

There is also the matter of maintenance though. Our bodies require little to no maintenance at all and are able to self-repair to a limited degree.

This would be very hard to replicate in non-organic prosthetics.

Maintenance is an odd subject, since there are a huge number of differences.
Fatigue over long periods of time is possible in non-organic materials, but even with one single flaw it can be far quicker in the human body (e.g. cartilage wearing down in joints, bones not healing in the correct shape, even just ingrowing toenails). With external replacements like limbs, small scratches and such will build up over time and not heal, but large damages can be fixed/replaced easier and quicker than a broken bone or loss of the entire limb (which is, obviously, the main use of prosthetics currently).
>>
>>340857023
No one was indeed trying to take the typo seriously. I don't think that was ever in question. But if someone doesn't get the joke, then move on. Jokes based on typos are easy and not worth the "Ehh? Ehhh? Get it?" that follows.
>>
>>340857078
