Same a thing to note is the Emblem is one of they key things that can be swapped, from what it looks like on Batman, gear can be swapped separately and not as a full set. So its not just one piece of armor its a singular one, so Cowl/Helmet is separate from chest.

Plenty of comic books characters are strong enough or have the right tools to give Superman a challenge without anything that weakens him.
Supes is only like upper mid tier in terms of power levels.
The thing is power levels mean jack shit in western comics, most stories are about them trying to solve a problem that they can't just punch their way out of, and supervillains or criminals get roped in their as obstacles along the way.
If you mean people without superpowers or suits like Lex, writers have a boner for Batman being an underdog because of TDKReturns but the only thing that makes that work is that Clark isn't really trying to beat the shit out of a regular human being. Plenty of other times in different continuities Superman has just ended that fight quickly and efficiently because he doesn't have time for bullshit.
TL;DR it's whatever makes for a thrilling story
