No that's why in the 7th and 8th gen when cinematic shooters are all popular they make cinematic shooters. Why in the 6th gen becuse GTA III got popular they changed Jak & Daxter to be gritty, why when collectathons were popular they threw Crash away and make Jak & Daxter. When Mario Kart and Party proved popular they copied it. Crash was made because of how popular mascot platformers were at the time.
If by some miracle in the 9th gen Shooters popularity plummet and some other genre becomes the most popular that's the genre Sony and Naughty Dog will be doing. They focus on popular trends and throw what they have away when the new trend happens.

Smash is a really hard game to make. Even if someone got the gameplay right it still needs to be a record of gaming history with a cast of appealing characters with varied movesets(even the sword users in smash are very different).
The problem is that outside Nintendo and a few exceptions almost every relevant videogame franchise is a shooter with the same kind of mechanics, movesets and there's a severe lack of popular non-humanoid characters. Then they'd need a director who knows and understands each character as well as Sakurai does to represent them well.

I'm a huge Uncharted fan but even I know that the current Naughty Dog setup could never handle Crash properly. Too much of the old blood is gone, Crash's creators aren't even there anymore, and the current head even stated that the developers have no interest in doing it. I'm fairly certain the games had nearly everything tied to framerate, so going to 60 would just double the speed of the game. Its why NTSC and PAL versions are different, TVs from different regions ran at different refesh rates, so games had to accomadate it.

Play to the strengths of characters created during the intial age of 3D game and let them fight in a 3D environment. SSB works because many of those guys started as platformers or in a 2d realm.
Also if microsoft makes an xbox allstars it should be a 3rd person shooter with lots of minigames and wacky game modes. Rather than have each character get a unique weapon simply make the notable weapons from each game available on the map.
