It wasn't hard because I grasped how to clear a map effectively within 1 or 2 retries. Generally there's a particular style of strategy that will work well and I just used that.

The main answer to ninjas for me was always bows. Whether you lure them in with the edge of their attack range with Bow Knights or rush them with Snipers, bows will fuck their shit up. Axes would also work if most axe units weren't still mediocre, promoting into axes doesn't help matters with how long it takes to build weapon ranks and bronze weapons being wimpy unless you forge the crap out of them, which is admittedly easier to do than with more expensive stuff. Bronze bows are still enough to murder fliers with though thanks to ridiculous effective damage, and they toss enough of those annoying fucks at you that even a late bow can be a godsend.

Lunatic on Birthright and Revelation slows everything to a crawl if you trying to collect skills for your units to carry into other files. The actual grinding maps become harder than story missions when using units of comparable levels, and actually have skills relevant to their classes unlike nearly everything in Birthright and Revelation.
Conquest stacks together even more unlikely skill combinations than units on hard have, but that's actually a GOOD thing since it means more cool shit to capture. Of course, enemy only skills like Inevitable End are lost when capturing them so feel free to murder such cheating fucks.
Another cool thing about Lunatic mode is that all the enemies come with max weapon ranks so capturing generic bosses can still be useful at times.

Well, because the child units had some killer stats. Nina is both faster and harder hitting than Niles. I was actually just using the Paralogues to get some extra EXP and items since I thought it was fair, since i went to the trouble of unlocking them. Then I realised that some of them were better than 1st gen units in terms of stats. Sophie for example was miles better than my slow as fuck Silas. Not that I used her for long, since Xander. Besides that, they're interesting to have and I wasn't really looking at the supports much.

There are a ridiculous number of ways to get around bad stats in all 3 Fates games, but apparently you need everything spoonfed to you, so much for being "gud". Weapons are forgeable if you have duplicates, and irons are always buyable so low str is rarely ever an issue. Tonics can beef up stats a bit, the mess hall even more, and pair up bonuses a fuckton. There's also rallies and a bunch of skills that directly increase and decrease damage. If you're unsure of what shit does, you can use the goddamn INTERNET to find out exactly what you need to make the best use out of whatever resources you have. This isn't the 80's, for fucks sake.

Basically, the statistics of the games tends towards extremes.
Something that has a 50% chance to hit will hit 50 pecent of the time, as excepted, but something with a 90% chance to hit will almost always hit, somewhat more often than 9 times out of 10, and something with a 10% chance to hit will hit rather less that 1 out of every 10 times.
In other words, it makes chances more bankable as they behave in ways we would normally incorrectly assume statistics work, so that pic related doesn't happen very often.

From hit 50 and above the true hit value is higher than is stated. Lower and the true hit is lower. It benefits the player because the player almost always has a very high hit value, while the enemy almost always has a low one. Thus, you're less likely to get hit by enemies with low hit and more likely to hit.
