What the fuck 'The Official Video Game' means? Jesus Christ.
>>
Dark Corners of the Earth was excellent. I have no opinion on this one 'cause the 'trailer' doesn't show anything.
>>
>>340692879
Dark Corners of the Earth turned into bland, ridiculously bad shooter within a few hours. It also broke all lovecraftian themes it tried to use.

i wonder how things are gonna move forward since more people know of lovecrafts racism

Has anyone really gotten into Lovecraft or just into what can be perceived as 'lovecraft,' i.e. old gods, strange shit, and what not?

Honestly I tried getting into Lovecraft but his writing was dry as fuck. Interesting and engaging. But dry.

his name was Niggerman, anon; not Niggercat

as for the game itself; looks kind of nice but it seems like it's going to go the penumbra/amnesia route of gameplay which doesn't make me all too excited
>>
>>340693931

It should be named Niggercat, Niggerman doesn't make sense, it's a cat not a man.

why not just "i have to get to the bottom of this"
still just as cheesy but it doesn't paint the main character as some kind of hero
>>
>"The Official Video Game"

That's a fucking stupid subtitle, especially for a reboot.

I guess they're trying to imply that the previous game is retroactively unofficial, out of embarrassment for having fucked it up so badly.
>>
>>340696184
That was Bethesda's fault. They had to cut down a lot of material from what they wanted.
>>
>>340693931

Fuck that. Lovecraft games shouldn't be jump scare bullshit.
>>
>>340691824

I almost bought a book of Lovecraft short stories today.

Did I miss out?
>>
>>340697646
Yes. Lots of words in them aren't used today so some of it may be confusing, but the stories themselves are good.

Why would they bother reusing the name when the original devs turn out a hot mess?

Actual Lovecraft is pretty fucking terrible. What was contributed to the mythos later by other writers was a lot better.
>>
>>340697914

its the name of the original story dingus
>>
>>340697914
>reusing the name

It's the name of the original short story. Bethesda didn't come up with it.
>>
>>340691824
Teaser, zero gameplay. The voice actor is terrible. Still hoping for a decent Lovecraft game.

>>340697646
The majority of Lovecraft's actual work is thinly veiled racism and "cautionary" tales against race mixing, which might float your boat, I don't know.
>>
>>340693931
>>340694282
Niggerman was named after Lovecraft's childhood cat, who was just named Nigger.

What the hell is the relationship between this and the Sinking City, by Frogwares? Is it the same title, or are there two separate CoC games coming out?

They're good stories, despite any racist under or overtones. The ideas themselves are pretty groundbreaking for their time, and continue to influence horror today.
>>

>What the hell is the relationship between this and the Sinking City, by Frogwares?
What?
Absolutely nothing
It's just two Lovecraft games coming out. Completely different developers.
>>
>>340695026
My favorite illustrator made the cover for this and it's fucking awful.
>>
>>340698910
>>340698713
>original story

His most popular story, sure. He has better works like the Dunwich Horror, Shadow Over Innsmouth, and At the Mountains of Madness. If your Lovecraft reading stops at Cthulhu, you're missing out. Cthulhu actually recognises humanity in some capacity. The real horror of Lovecraft is that there are beings within and without the universe impossibly powerful and they're not even evil, we just understand so little of their psychology that their actions seem completely arbitrary.
>>
>>340699105
No relation other than the same publisher.
>>
>>340695026
This. This game would be fucking great if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get running and it crashes all the time after you do
>>
>>340699748
Ironically, one of Lovecraft's most pervasive and powerful entities is also his most human, and interacts with humanity quite commonly, to spread insanity.

I'm just hoping they didn't want to spoil any gameplay this early, and that it's not amnesia/slenderman.

Did anyone else liked The White Ship?
>>

>best stories
>not mentioning Shadow Out of Time

Great Race of Yith are by far and away my favorite Lovecraftian creatures
>>
>>340695026

Honestly what needs to be done is make the entire game revolve around exploring the town and uncovering the mysteries rather than having the game Lovelace into FPS shlock

Like, holy fuckballs, the atmosphere leading up to your ambush in the hotel might just be the best atmosphere I've ever felt from a game
>>
It should be a myst-like. Explore the environment to solve puzzles but try not to drive yourself crazy in the process.
>>
>>340700593
>running through the hotel frantically locking and barricading doors behind you
Fucking amazing, sad it all got thrown down the drain.
>>
>>340700593
The escape from the hotel was great too. No weapons. Running and slamming doors and locking them, pushing bookcases to block the way.
>>
>>340701047
>>340701094

True, the hotel sequence itself was none too shabby. Honestly if the publisher tells them "you can't have a game with just wandering and piecing the story together" then I hope they work around the developer's requirement for adrenaline rushes by having more escape sequences in place of fighting seqeuences
>>
>>340692598
Because it's a licensed adaptation of the roleplaying game, not the story. I think.

I'm not actually sure how that works. There's a tabletop RPG that has the same name, but is a separate property from the story, which is in the public domain. Does this mean anyone can make a game called The Call of Cthulhu based on the book, or would that conflict with the Tabletop RPG's trademark?

i hope it doesnt gets tainted with lovecraft's racism, we live in a progressive world now
