The only explination about ash lake is all of lordran is on top of a tree. Maybe not all of it but at least firelink shrine and parts of undead burg. It is a lake and what we see looks like vast hirizons but its fog. Ash lake makes perfect sense as opposed to old iron keep

Dark Souls is p2p, Dark Souls II has it's own server. I honestly didn't feel much of a difference.

T B H i have only one problem with DS2 and that is its unfinished state with some areas.There are sections that never made it into the final game and if you look around you can see the blocked corridors that should've lead to places that were scrapped.

Btw i was talking with some of my coding buddies and they think that the amount of bonfires is intentional so that there can be created PvP game bubbles in the world around them.The way PvP in DS2 can work almost anywhere comes at the price of a few more bonfires.

If you color your character in a pale color, and walk through a dark area, things get a bit weird.
It's like the darkness affects everything but your character's skin tone, giving it a weird glowy look.
Also, the female model is exactly the same as the male one, but with a different face. They have this big powerful shoulders, which looks weird.

No you don't, you can go back and play the game and see that when you are in the windmill, you are only halfway up it at the Mytha fight. The giant windmill blades you burn (that doesn't really make much sense) to stop the poison being pumped into Earthern Peak are the ones in the bottom-middle of the building that you can see outside it. You can even go on the balcony that a fire sorceress is launching fireballs out of to see how high up you are.

It's not very well designed, sure, I admit that but what is happening isn't that you climp to the top of a windmill and then climb into an elevator then magically go up into the sky and into the Iron Keep, you go halfway up a windmill that's built into a mountain then go through a tunnel into the mountain, then go up an elevator into the crater of the volcano where Iron Keep is.

Buttershit was a garbage fight, and bed of bullshit is the worst boss in soulsborne games. Tbh, DS1 has 2 memorable boss fights, Smostein and Nito. DS2 has ruin sentinels, lost sinner, chariot, mirror knight, duke's dear freja, rotten, velstadt.

Also DS1 becomes garbage midgame, and even the first half is completely ruined by areas like the depths, lower undead burg, or by bad hitboxes, bad collision detection, bad enemy placement, buggy AI, sometimes horrible graphics (those fucking 2d trees).

DS2 may be flawed, a lot, but it's nothing compared to DS1 and it improves on literally every aspect of the game.

DS3 is best soulsborne game anyway.

You can look down from Vordt's boss arena and see every area in the game, and how you'll be interacting with those areas, and it all makes perfect sense.

There are 4 possible first bosses in DS2.

Last Giant/Pursuer/Dragon Rider/Old Dragon Slayer

Besides that bosses like Last Giant are mediocre at best. Not bad but not good either. Sometimes the lore makes up for it.

Dark Souls 1 has it far worse with Sif and OandS being the only main game bosses that are really well done.
Fatass Asylum Demons are boring trash. Taurus is trash. Butterfly is shit and boring and bad designed. And every boss after you get the Lordvessel feels like they didn't really put effort into it. Even Nito as cool as he might be is a lackluster of a bossfight with him killing his skelly allies for you again and again. They really should have given him something that makes his decease cloud more dangerous and him hating light dangerous in a fair way. Him just spamming his magic swords is lame.

That's where the Drakes live. They're animals senpai, they don't need a reason. I guess you could also infer that the Red Drake was born there too, and flew up through the canyon to reach the Burg

Ash Lake is shown in the intro, and the great Archtrees basically hold up the entire overworld. It's a bit weird, but it makes sense.

Humans were treated like trash, so human cities usually suck. The Burg is more like the Ghetto, and the other human settlements in Souls games seem pretty uncomfortable, so its not that much of a stretch.

I agree with you on Lothric, it felt rushed and dull. I also agree about Yharnam, it should have been much larger and had many more bosses and locations.

Let me break this down for you.

You enter the trunk of a very old tree, in the lowest area on the game that isn't underground, and you traverse the inside of the old tree down to it base.

You come out at the very bottom, where all the arch trees have their roots, in an ancient aquifer beneath the earth. It's a common trope, just look at Nausicaa.

Meanwhile, the comparison you tried to make, of Earthen Peek having an elevator going up into the aether, and area you can see from just outside the windmill is completely bereft of any volcanos, mountains, or really any sort of connecting landscape that would make sense, and coming out in the bowels of a volcano fortress. THAT makes no sense.

The reality is that Ash Lake from Blighttown and Iron Keep from Earthen Peak are not even comparable, mostly because Ash Lake makes sense from both a level design AND lore standpoint, while Iron Keep makes no sense from either.

Don't forget the oil to illuminate the Lost Sinner fight, the lever you can pull to give yourself more room to fight the Dragonrider on or the ballista to use on the Persuer.

There is even neat environmental stuff to use like the trees that moan when you hit them that distract the invisible enemies in the Shaded Woods.

I always imagined the dark souls universe as more of a magical, dream world, where the main character was on a journey through time.

Bloodborne is the grimdark, transylvania counterpart where you are thrown in a nightmare and have to survive.

They both do their job well, dream versus nightmare.

I believe that dark souls 2 in the amazing journey and dream respect did the best job in portraying that (yes I actually like that you start in the base of a tree, go to a castle, go to a floating lava city, etc etc) It made me feel like playing ocarina of time again with dark souls combat. Best in the series

I wouldn't go that far, but it does have a certain fairy-tale atmosphere that the other games lack. I still prefer the oppressiveness of DS1 though, nothing in DS2 felt particularly dark.
