Never ever tried a Final Fantasy game before, but I wanna get more into the series, would you guys recommend starting at FF13?
>>
>>340633182
I'd recommend Grandia II and III before FFXIII.
>>
Sure, why not? Pirate FF13 on PC and give it a whirl. There's some patches and shit too to make it pretty.

The game takes ages to get difficult but it does open up very well.
>>
>>340633182
fucking play the first final fantasy, see the roots of the series first before you see anything else.

To start in Final Fantasy and get the most out of the culture I'd recommend I, IV, IX, XIV and Tactics Advanced.
>>
>>340633695
XIV is a bit meh but otherwise that's a pretty good list there. But you missed VII, even though people claim for it to be overrated, it's still a solid game.
>>
>>340633182
Every FF is different.
>>
>>340633182
It's a fine start. Many people consider it as one of the worst in series, but I disagree. It just tskes a bit too long to "get going". Sequels fix this tho.

However, if you want to start big, and experience the game that really made FF relevant world wide, start with FF7. It's very rookie friendly.

After tgat, gove 4, 6 and 9 a shot

>>340633861
I feel that XIV, even as an MMO, has a strong final fantasy feel, and if you like theme parks it's the perfect place to start.
I also wanted to include VII but I feel like it's too much of a spin off with all the technology around, same with VI and VIII, and XI is just too old now to be enjoyed as it should
>>
>>340634170
HW's story really starts striking into its own 'feel' that's both very final fantasy and unique at the same time.
>>
>>340633182
FUCK no, it's an abomination
>>
>>340633695
XIV isn't representive of the culture at all. It merely panders to fans of the other games with fanservice plain and simple. People will get a lot more out of it if they've played the others.

>>
I would hold off on playing any FF games until XV comes out or FF7 remake. Most of the games aged poorly and FF13 was boring as fuck.

If you are in to older games check out FFX. If you really wanna play a jrpg play persona 4
>>
Start with FFI

GBA FF1 & 2, Dawn of Souls is a good port, even adds more and if you emulate it you can make the game run fast as fuck. You also get a bonus (?) game out of it.

For someone who has never played FF games other than Dissidia on PSP, from what you would recommend me to "start"? These games never really catch my eye but I decided to give it a try, now that I really need something new to play.
>>
>>340633182
Start with either 4, 6, 7, or 10. 4 is definitely the easiest, but the others are by no means difficult.
>>
Play 7, 8, 9 or 10 for the best experiences Final Fantasy has to offer.

Play 4, 6, T for a slower paced less graphical Final Fantasy experience

Play anything beyond X for a modern Final Fantasy Experience I.E. Trash.

All depends on what you're looking for. They're all pretty different. If you've played Dissidia why not go with the character you liked the most's game first?

Most people consider 13 to be one of the, if not the, worst game in the series.
I am among those people.
It seriously felt like watching a terrible movie with mandatory "press X for half a minute" battles thrown in here and there. I cannot emphasize enough how boring and lifeless this game felt. I cannot think of a single game with more boring gameplay than this.
Somehow, there are still people that like. I will never understand why. I honestly consider it one of the worst games ever made. Not because it's technically bad, it performs well, looks and sounds good, it's got the technical aspect down pretty well. But it's just not enjoyable in any way, shape or form. Playing this game was actively annoying me.

Disclaimer: I played for about 6 hours. I don't care if the game "gets good after twenty hours", I'm not sitting through twenty hours of that shit.

am I doing something wrong? why am I not having fun? Is it advisable to grind monsters and exp or will the time limit fuck you up?
>>
Avoid playing FF tactics as your first, it was mine and it messed up my DD experience. Still can't draw my sword to this day
>>
>>340633695
Starting with XIV is dumb and I pity people who play it as their first FF. It's a fanservice game.

IV, VI, VII and IX are the most beloved games by the most fans, and the ones I could easily recommend to anyone.
Out of those, I'd say 7 is a safe bet. It was a huge phenomenon back in the days, and it's still very enjoyable, atmospheric and even comfy game. The gameplay-mechanisms are simple enough to learn by a rookie, but hard enough to master to keep experienced players interested. There's also tons of optional side quests, minigames, etc.

After that, choose your poison. Since the stories and worlds are (usually) not connected in any way, you can pretty much shoot blind. Different things appeal to different people, and that's also why there's so much arguments about various titles in the series.

I for example really liked the FF XIII trilogy as a whole, but I know that many bash it as the worst blunder of the millennium and death of the series.

The ones I would personally recommend skipping are the NES originals (1-3) and the MMOs (11 & 14). I also wasn't too fond of VIII and XII.
>>
>>340635297
You have such fucking bad taste.

So even though the game looks, sounds, and performs better than all the other final Fantasy games you hate it because the game play was boring?

You're full of shit, because almost all the other FF games are you hit, they hit, and any brain dead fuckwit of a monkey could just keep on slamming down the X button for the first several hours.

At least is 13 there's a slight controlling aspect to it compared to its regular turn based predecessors.

Dumbass

Yes.

you apparently hate exploration and sidequests.
>Is it advisable to grind monsters and exp or will the time limit fuck you up?
There's more than enough time to almost 100% the game on your first run. I was left with couple EXTRA days with next to nothing to do.

Also, you do not get EXP from monsters. Only loot and moves you can use to customize your own class combos. Side quests are your only way of "leveling up" in LR.

>disliking VIII and XIII

Hell fucking no
>>
>>340635159
10 and 7 are both horrendous slogs to go through with the openings and combat, along with the story, being a huge drag for several hours before it even remote picks up.

6 is okay, I liked it a good amount. Doesn't have the problems stated before, and if it does its at a much smaller degree.

4 was decent at best.
>>
>>340633182
Yes play FF13. After about an hour if you're not a blind weeb faggot you will uninstall and never play another FF again.
>>
>>340636086
Yes fucking way.

>liking literal SP MMO and bland teen drama games
>>
>>340636112
>10 and 7 are both horrendous slogs to go through with the openings and combat
Gotta highly disagree with you there, mate. Both are pure joy to go through, with superb atmosphere. Especially FF7 is just pure beauty.

I've started FF6 already 3 different times, each time quitting around the time the world is destroyed. Just never got motivation to proceed afterwards; everything just feels so floaty and inconsistent.

FF4 was damn well done, with great pacing. It captivated me within the first couple minutes.
>>
>>340636112
Then what would you suggest?
>>
OP, just play IX and then pick whatever
>>
>>340636112
agreed FFVII has one of the worse intros to a game I've ever played
>>
>>340636171
Why are you talking about XII and Type 0?
>>
>>340635561
Do side quests to increase your stats, it's better to avoid monsters until the later days anyway because they give you better drops.
>>
>>340636112

You might as well say all of them suck
>>
>>340636339
Honestly none of them are fantastic rpg's

Like I said 6 was good, 13 is easy to pick up and try, especially since you could skip cinematics and such. Some of the tactic games as well.
>>
>>340634658
>NES Emulation is hard as fuck
No, no it;s really not
>>
>>340636429
XII wasn't a teen drama. It was like playing through a game with (not as)the main characters, but you are just some guy with them. Half of your party would have made a better main character than Vaan.
>>
Ok here's my personal preferences for all the games in the series I played
X-2>XIII-2>VII>XIII>LRXIII>X>Dissidia 012>VIII>IV>Type 0>DoCVII>CCVII>I>VI
>>
>>340636337
The opening of VII and X are fucking boring.
7 is just wait till the meter fills up to attack generic enemy no. 1. And the game already expects you to care about 'old girl friend' that you as a played don't know anything about. Stereotype black dude. And arrogant Mc.

10 starts a bit stronger trying to get you invested to throw out encounters that look enjoyable to fight against at first. But end up just being keep pressing X to win.

OP should just wait for XV. It's only 4 months away.

And each FF is pretty different. So, you may like some while hating others.

Why do you recommend skipping XI and XIV

>>340635862
Gameplay was boring.
Characters were boring.
Story was boring.
Nothing was even remotely entertaining. Nothing.
In the other games in the series I've played, at least one of the former were enjoyable, usually more.
And you at least had to manually select you and your party's action, it wasn't all just autobattle bullshit.
Fuck off.
