I played through 999 for the first time a couple days ago and wanted to like it but had a hard time. The puzzles are well done but the characters are so uninteresting and the story devolves into so much pseudoscience bullshit that I lost interest in seeing other endings. I looked into VLR and it seemed like it had more of what I didn't like in 999.
For what it's worth I got the axe ending. Are things at least more interesting in the true ending? I'd be willing to play it through again so I could see if it changes my opinion.

Yeah and it looks stupid because of how simplistic the assests are and you can tell it's designed for a much lower native resolution. This is why I almost always prefer handheld games on handhelds, they aren't designed or built around such excessive hardware. I guess this is largely an American thing though, the GO BIG or GO HOME attitude.
Handheld gaming will always, always be comfier and better than PC gaming.
