There's literally 9 Overmeme threads so can we raise our standards for a second and talk about GBA games?

What are you favorite games from this absolutelly well designed handheld masterpiece?

Mine is pic related.
>>
>>340545847
My favorite is Yggdra Union, but I played it on the PSP

Mona a cutie.
>>
>>340545847
Aria of Sorrow was fantastic, I like it better than Symphony of the Night.

The MegaMan Battle Network series has the greatest battle system of ALL TIME. I've replayed every game in the series at least twice.

>>340545991
Smooth Moves is the best in the series. DIY was great for what it was too and Mario Maker borrows a lot of its style and oddities from it.
>>
Astroboy Omega
Dragon Ball Advance
>>
>>340545991
I agree but Gamer in Game and Wario is my favorite minigame of all time
>>
>>340545847
Mario superstar saga
>>
>>340545991
This game was godly levels of comfy.
>>340546168
Indeed, I also loved the Earthbound kinda aspect of the game where you run around in your town, really appealing and entertaining.
>>340546315
Best mario rpg.
Witch-Bowser was absolutelly disgusting to fight.

Good list but still there are a lot missing.
>FF Tactics Advance
>Golden Sun 1/2
>Zelda: Minish Cap
>Wario Ware
>DBZ: The Legacy of Goku
>Sonic Battle
>BDZ SuperSonic Warriors

1. Advance Wars
2. Fire Emblem
3. Yggdra Union
4. Mother 3
5. Mega Man Zero
>>
>>340547482
The third one had absolutely shit story, 75% of the whole game is a fetch quest. There are also points of no return making some djinns permanently missable. The ending is a massive cliffhanger.

On the good part: The music is decent, the graphics are good and the best thing about it is the fanservice - dem star magician and dullahan rematches.
>>
>Three Castlevania games
>Two Fire Emblem games
>Advance Wars 1/2
>Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
>Boktai 1/2
>Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission
>TLOZ: Minish Cap
>Yoshi's Island
>Superstar Saga
>Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
>Mother 3
>Riviera

Looking back at it, the GBA was a pretty based handheld.

Would any anons recommend games for it based on my tastes above? I liked neither FFTA nor Golden Sun

There's only a port of the first game. They shuffled the characters a bit, so some appear earlier or later than before, and added three new ones. It isn't particularly different otherwise.

The game also becomes not figuratively impossible as you keep replaying it.

GBA games are too good. Most of the RPGs (and variants)_ were fun and i'd come back for them no matter what every year.

summon night, tales of, megaman BN, FF, fire emblem, mario and luigi, advance wars, castlevania, golden sun, sword of mana, pokemon and it's hacks, shining soul, breath of fire and a bunch more. Thanks OP, gettin' me revved as fuck to play them again.

>>340549702
>Rave Master
This was a pretty mediocre fighting game as far as I recall. What'd you find so good about it?

Why not just emulate on PC? It's way easier.

Emulating is so great, I love it so.

This works on your first and maybe second playthrough, but things get more and more grim over time.

Earthbound's combat is about as bare bones as turn based RPG combat gets. It's really not a fine example of the genre in that particular regard.

Dunno,I found it fun, Im not going to defend the fact that had pretty shitty gameplay.

I used to rent a gameboy advance and pic related all the time. I never had the pleasure of being able to afford one for myself.

I fucking loved cotm, Its the only RPG format castlevania thats still difficult even if you've grinded levels. The castle is huge and there's tons of secret rooms and extras to explore. You get permanent ability upgrades just like sotn, Favorite being the roc's feather.

The only thing that trivializes the game is the dss card glitch. Once you know about it, its hard to resist the urge to just turn on one of the op combos to defeat a boss.

I also loved how in new game+ you could input your name as 'fireball' to start with all cards unlocked and a high magic stat. Basically a mage mode, then I think beating it again let you do "DAGGER" for a playstyle focusing on subweapons. Pretty sure there was a thief mode as well.

All in all game was and is fucking awesome. Best of the ost is probably the final boss theme and "awake"

Golden Sun had a pretty cool class system though, its just unfortunate that it basically penalizes you for doing anything but stacking all of one type of djinn on one character. I think the Trails games perfected what Golden Sun tried to do with Djinns though unfortunately the summoning mechanic doesn't have an equivalent in Trails.

Not to mention once you get into higher level play you just have to exploit the most broken strategies possible in order to compete and that just sucks all the fun out of the game. That's whats happened to every RTS out there, its why RTS is such an unpopular genre now, its just not fun to play a game where you have to play perfectly optimally at all times.

Advance Wars is even worse because at high level, almost every CO plays identical. DoR spiced things up, but in earlier games, I have trouble thinking of a CO you had to play as something other than a god who feeds on infantry sacrifices.

There is also a fighter mode where you get zero mana but your whip is OP as shit. So all in all there are 5 different ways to play the game and they actually change the way the game is played quite a bit. Subweapon mode gets a homing dagger. Thief mode you are pretty weak but have max luck and everything drops for you. My favorite Metroidvania by far.

Also, the store in AoS is pretty ass. Come on now. I get that they needed some reason for Dracula to be pulled into the 21st century Japan, but the fucking solar eclipse shit makes no sense, even for Castlevania.
The graphics, however, are some of the absolute best on the system. You can't seriously put the store above the graphics.
>>
>>340560213
>indie is synonymous with bad
GBA and DS metroidvanias were all pretty good but La Mulana is just that much better. More challenging, better boss fights, no tacked on RPG mechanics, more to explore and better puzzles. Castlevania has the edge on music and visuals but not by much.

you're so full of shit it's not even funny, the only actual complaint about the game is the "bad dialogue", and even then you can just skip it by mashing A/B on 1 and holding B in 2
>>
>>340560835
Not that anon and I don't really hate Golden Sun, but it had more problems than that. A loooot of recolor enemies. 90% of battles are super straightforward and thus just waste your time. Puzzles could have been more creative given the tools. Poor pacing in parts.
>>
>>340560713
Castlevania exceeds at what it aims to do, provide a large, interesting, action focused game. It mostly does this by including a shitload of weapons, spells, summons, transformation etc. I understand what you're saying, but I don't think La-Mulana is as comparable as you think. It's a lot more focused on puzzle solving, whereas Castlevania is a snappy action adventure.

Confession. I never finished CotM. The movement in that game felt so damn stiff in comparison to HoD and AoS. Having to double tap to run and wall jumping and stuff felt off. It's like an in-between of the classic stuff and SotN, which didn't feel right. Should I go back and beat that motherfucker? I know there's a bunch of content and cool spell combinations and whatnot.

if the controls bother you that much then, no offense, but you're probably too much of a wuss to beat some of the bosses later in that game.

CoTM is great it's stiff compared to the other GBA games but once you get used to it you'll have more fun.

I think this is a problem with turn-based combat games in general, not Golden Sun, but go ahead and prove me wrong mentioning some games that have "god tier turn-based combat"

and even if GS's combat really was bad, it's still fun thanks to the awesome animations, character customization, howls, djinn/summon system, and the music, also it's fast as fuck, left me spoiled, most other random-encounter games got annoying for me because of how fucking slow they are to start the battle and for it to flow

>Puzzles could have been more creative given the tools.
I completely disagree, I think they used most psynergies well, specially in the first game, TLA's new psynergies like parch, blaze, tremor and blaze were pretty underwhelming though (but the one where you become sand was pretty well used imo)

Ivalice is still my favourite FF universe. I absolutely adore these games' artstyle. Maybe ignore A2, but the first FFT, FFTA and XII look so whimsical and adventurous. It's one of those ''I wish I could live in that world'' type of games, which funnily enough is the story to the game.
This game brings back bittersweet memories for me. A lot of staying home playing video games rather than going to school and a lot, a lot of masturbating to shitty art of Ritz. Seriously, why isn't there more art of Ritz?

Oh, yes. The game desperately needed some kind of speed-up function. Even A2 is faster and that game is still fucking slow. Just moving around is sluggish as hell. Oh I thought you were talking about the game's pace.
The combat system is slow as balls but you will reach a point where you kill everything in one hit.

Well, shit. I don't really remember much, but when you start getting some decent units and open up the jobs a bit, things become a lot better.
Pro-tip, try to always have your characters learning something. Make sure to keep an eye out for abilities attached to equipment. It might get tedious spending more time in fucking menus, but every AP counts and you'll be happy that you unlocked the better jobs once you've done it.

~$90 after everything but considering it essentially includes a flashcart and the build quality is actually good, I can't say I regret it. It beats paying $80 for a Micro with no flash cart that I can't hold because manhands, and backlit GBAs are fucking expensive.
The only downside is that the included flashcart has a few issues with some games (Zero Mission's music is glitchy but I own it so oh well, apparently Mother 3 lags a bit but I never tested it, Aria of Sorrow's map has a weird flash bug due to the little circle flashing over your location, etc) and allegedly the EZ-Flash IV doesn't work. Just booted up FFTA and holy shit the party menu is flawed. If I want to change equipment and make a unit learn a new ability, I can't see if he's mastered the one on the current equipment, so I have to go into his ability page and look up if he's done or not. This also goes for when checking new weapons. Having to constantly switch in and out of these two screens is fucking annoying. Say what you will about A2, they made unit management so much easier and faster.
