Seems to be human-esque vampires, although set in WWI, and including powers like brainwashing humans etc. If I've heard right it may also have a moral decision making element-ie you can be an event vampire who fucks all humans over or not.

>Set in post-First World War London, with Spanish Flu killing off the city's citizens far faster than the war ever did, Vampyr puts you into the shoes of surgeon Jonathan Reid. Shortly after the game begins, Reid is bitten and turned into a vampire by a night-creature using the confusion of the plague to feed on the vulnerable.

>In your search to find out what you've become, you travel through different areas of London. Each hub has groups of characters to meet and interact with. Unlike other RPGs, where NPCs stand and wait for you and have little relation to the other NPCs around them, in Vampyr the characters in each hub are linked—they're friends, enemies, family members. In the demo I was shown, Reid comes across two men arguing in the street. The older of the two pulls a gun, fires on the younger, and runs off into the night. The demo-er talked to the boy, who was tight-lipped about the argument, except to say 'He's not been the same since he came back.' The demo-er had Reid track the older man in the dark streets and feed on him—as the older man died we were privy to his final thought: 'It's okay, I died a long time ago in France

>t turns out the man and the boy are father and son. The father has been in a deep depression since returning from fighting in France and this has driven a wedge between the two of them, leaving them both morose. If, instead of feeding on them right off the bat, you were to reconcile the two, bringing them back together by talking to them both you would make them both much happier, more fulfilled. The experience you'd then get for draining them would be greatly increased.

>There is no karmic balance—you can't get good karma points, you can only get damnation points," Beauverger explains. "You can only go down deeper into darkness, the player just controls the speed of their descent." You aren't rewarded for not killing people in Vampyr. There is no mechanical pressure to do so either: you don't get hungry if you avoid killing humans, you just miss out on the experience that will let you level up your skills for an easier time against your enemies.

>And, if you kill someone, it will have ramifications for all the people in a district. It may crush them, ruin their lives—it may make things better. Your actions have consequences.

>There are heroes in Vampyr, but you aren't one of them, Beauverger tells me: "The true heroes are the vampire hunter that you will face," he says. They are the ones killing monsters and protecting the weak. You are just deciding to be a little less evil than you could be - or as evil as you want.

It sounds too good to be true, but I'm hyped nonetheless.

>Stéphane Beauverger, the game's narrative director, often describes Vampyr's story as a gothic one: dark, despair-filled and full of melancholy. It's a romanticized tale of immortals, without the romance.

Remember Me had a lot of trouble in it's development it seems

>"At the beginning it was crazy at every level," says Beauverger, who worked on the game's story. "We were so confident. We signed with Sony so quickly. We said, 'This is it. We are going to make The Game.'"

>But the project soon ran into trouble as Sony made cuts from its upcoming catalog, with Remember Me among them.

>"They were downsizing," Beauverger says of the games cut. "So for a few months, we had no idea where we — we really believe that from the difficulties, come the better ideas. If everything is easy, you get a little bit lazy."

>Dontnod eventually signed with Capcom to publish the game, but it was a move that came with consequences: axed characters, cut sequences, killed gameplay ideas.

>Dontnod plans to include a stack of RPG features in Vampyr, including skill trees to better tailor the vampire experience to the player. During an early demo, the developer showed off a few of Jonathan's supernatural skills. While some give him strength and speed, like a spring attack that allows him to quickly close gaps, others are more insidious. The doctor has the ability to mesmerize citizens and manipulate those with weak minds.

>In the demo's case, this led to one character revealing information to Jonathan that he wouldn't have otherwise. Players have the choice to mesmerize even further, during which Jonathan leads them off into the shadows and feeds on them. Unfortunately for his victims, there is no such thing as a quick bite; players will either feed and kill, or not feed at all.

Looks like zombies, ghouls or other vampires in this picture

>Reid can be a vigilante, feeding on the guilty and cleaning up the foggy streets; a pragmatist, killing innocent and guilty alike for the greater good; or just a murderer, feeding on anyone and everyone. Regardless of what path players take him down, it’s all a bit sinister and unpleasant. When he mesmerises his victims and gently guides them to a dark alley or quiet spot, where he’ll open up their neck and have a long drink, it’s unnerving no matter the justification.

>Newspapers report on the murders committed by Reid, and friends or family might make dramatic changes in their lives as a result of the their loss. “We have tried to create as many different effects as possible,” says Beauverger. “It can go from a selfish character who decides to be generous toward the poor after the death of his last friend… to a vengeful NPC who will join the vampire hunters to avenge the killing of his family by the hero.”

>Ultimately, entire districts can fall to chaos. “[I]f he takes too many lives, too quickly, an entire district may collapse,” Beauverger says, “thus forcing the hero to permanently lose any advantage, deal or relationship he may have created with all the citizens from this part of town.”

For how exactly can a vampire in this go without feeding?
Because considering it's one kill per feed that shit wouldn't be sustainable at all and draw far too much attention

I hope they are able to balance killing vs not killing in gameplay as it affects the story.

Perfect example of this failing is in dishonored, where the game encourages killing enemies, but the story does not. That wasn't very fun as skills only went into combat for the most part.

In this game it seems that killing people isn't inherently evil so you will be able to pick your battles. It looks like the stuff will flow togeather. I hope to see more down the line.
>>
>>340546313
Well people are dropping like flies because of the flu, that's the premise of the game. Vampires take advantage of the death and misery already present in the city

I wish the movie, aesthethically speaking, followed more that scene

I didn't liked much the scenes with Wynona Rider. The ones with Reeves at the castle of dracula are iconic, but man this scene is so perfect, so creepy and gothic, all in the good sense
>>

It could change if they realize that getting zilch for sparing humans would make the game pretty boring.

I'm not him but using the board boogieman as a general buzzword-criticism instead of going into details about what you specifically dislike about what you saw in this game, and then using a term like "higher level gameplay" without explaining what you mean makes you seem like you're just shitting out the most generic /v/ critical terms without really understanding anything or explaining what you dislike about what you saw.

Buzzword-criticisms just also happen to be what people on this board usually use in order to bait out some asshurt, so it's not surprising he assumes you're baiting. It sure as fuck isn't "genuine criticism". Genuine criticism is the people saying the devs are using terms like "meaningful consequences" to explain the appeal of the game, and pointing out we've heard that spiel before.

By dipshit waifufags and sjws maybe. The writing in LiS is utter garbage, the story is full of plotholes, the characters are shallow and insipid, and the main character exemplifies the concept of "Mary Sue" in a way I haven't seen since Twilight.

This social outcast nerd is going to a super special snowflake school that everybody actually likes except the evil bullies gets motherfucking time powers, and she's a vegetarian and she has something thoughtful and poignant to say about every piece of trash on the ground. If you honestly try and tell me you think this character is well written and engaging, then you need to invest in some motherfucking taste.

If you want to praise the game, I'd have to ask what the fuck you're praising it for.

Let's hope this game is the splinter cell of vampire games and gives us the full experience and something that will rival bloodrayne in its combat and rival splinter cell in how you can interact with the environment.

This game sounds like it has potential but so do a lot of games before casuals and suits get their hands on it

I'm okay with feeding on innocents killing them only if feeding gives you exp. if the only way to reasonably heal or use your abilities is to be well fed I can see how annoying it would get to kill someone every time. Vampires already literally have magical powers in the game such as charm so the whole it's impossible to heal argument is moot
