If they manage to turn things into good after the update in September and it actually plays pretty well and you can have fun with 4 players a long time, I would say go for it. You can also buy some NFC stickers and generate the characters on them, which is what I did (even though I bought most of the characters. You can find the page where you can generate the ID's for the chars.) I would try the new chars and buy them if TT Games managed to make them more interesting.
I'm always optimistic at LEGO games as I really liked LEGO Worlds and some of their older games, so who knows what TT Games is able to do this time, I really hope they don't fail it.
