Yes. Fuck the interconnected huge-ass castle. It's such a chore to navigate. OoE is so much better than the other Igavanias just for that detail alone. For that matter the difficulty in OoE was better balanced precisely because there were small stages.

Pixel art is a low resolution affair. Once you add HD resolutions, it becomes impossible to make such a game with a reasonable budget.

The other possibility is drawn sprites but those tend to look like flash animation. Already people are calling the new HD Sprite games generic looking. They all look the same.

I think it looks very nice, personally. I wouldn't say perfect, but imo, if this was the final look of that area, i wouldn't have a problem with it.
I think many games go too bright with the color. The thing I liked about Castlevania's style, is that they're not afraid to use lowly saturated color. Which in turn makes higher saturated color pop out better.
You can see plenty of color in the ship's interior. Purple, green, cyan, orange. It's just not super bright. I like that. Quite honestly, I'm sick of every game trying to fry my retina with overly saturated palettes.

Compare and contrast. Bloodstained browns are much more gray than the ones from OoE. Look at these browns, there's variety and is very nice in general without looking like Hot Line Miami.

They're using the same animation programs and techniques. It produces a very generic look. To make it easier, they use a cartoony look with thick black borders often. It means that they ALL look the same.

I think different styles can be made, but it hasn't been done yet.

The only sprite games that look different are the 480 resolution ones. Astro Port games for instance look like older games. But they're using more traditional sprite work, which can't really be done past 480p.

I have to say you're wrong. The OoE shot has warmer wood framing the windows, but that just happens to be the style of that particular environment. It's not a desolate ship. And if you really compare the color, Bloodstains's wood can get just as warm as OoE with the help of the lanterns they placed along the enrironment. Whereas OoE has no such lighting around the windows. So essentially Bloodstained is taking advantage of the lighting, in order to get a wider range of color.

The wall and the wood on the loowerportion of the wall, are actually gray in OoE. While Bloodstained actually infuses more green, and orange from the lighting.

I think it's just because Bloodstained palette is more samey that it gives me that impression. Miriam looks bright but the boat doesn't. For that matter the platforms are colored almost the same as the background so they don't pop. The lanterns look so off because they are so bright compared to everything else in the frame. Sure it has its purpose considering you'll have to whip them to get hearts or whatever equivalent for this game, but you get what I'm trying to say.

OoE bosses are crazy more aggressive than classicvanias. When you get down to it the only real challenge in them is the 3-phase Dracula at the end of CV3, and that's only because of the length of the battle and thus potential fuck ups that would make you need to redo the whole thing.

That's likely intentional, because you want your player character and enemies to stand out. Even Shanoa tends to be brighter than the environment in OoE. And if you look at some Castlevania games, they straight up outline the player's sprite with a luminous color.

I think they're still tweaking some things anyway. So you might get what you want when it's completed.

They're kinda the same, really. With Castlevania, your movement was limited so you had to choose where to move, when to jump and when to attack. The rush of doing it correctly is very exciting. That said I LOVE Shanoa's movement, but I never felt like I was using her as her full potential because the bosses were easier. Needed more CUHRAZY.

If you're worried about the level design, IGA will probably be taking more cues from SoTN than OoE. The galleon is just on the way to the castle; the castle itself is promised to be IGA's biggest ever. And while we haven't seen combat, the weapons are supposed to be a lot more like SoTN's than OoE--i.e actual weapons rather than glyphs, though there is crafting involved (which no Castlevania had either...except maybe Curse of Darkness or something? But that was demon summoning or something).

We do know, from one of the first concept images, that the curse can overwhelm Miriam mid gameplay. Maybe there's an ability that, if you use too often, causes the curse to overtake her.

But yeah, that's a pretty good idea for when the curse has progressed enough to cover a good portion of her body in stained glass.

But in terms of abilities and level design it's bound to be different. Miriam's powers are different, and most of all, the castle this time around is said to be on larger/largest side, while Ecclesia's castle is about the smallest one.

One of the worst parts of XIII/XII is how the backgrounds look miles above the actual fucking characters.

The characters are all soulless rotoscoped models but the background characters are full of life and personality.

I don't know about that. I mean, it's not my idea to excuse the game or anything, if the palletes all do end up samey I will be very disappointed.

But I really do think it's a poor idea to judge the pallete on nothing but the boat.
If I was to guess the boat is purposefully drab relatively speaking, to strike a striking contrast when you finally arrive at the castle and it's all grand and majestic. And you know, colourful.

Here is a shot from some very early alpha footage from before they had worked on shaders or anything. But it already has a wider use of colour in spite of how little work has been put into the visuals at this point.
I feel pretty safe in my hopes of them handling colour well in the game. But time will tell. E3 is very soon now and the demo should provide clarification on lots of things, such as style.

Jumping to conclusions like that is pretty ridiculous. And that said, OoE and SotN already have many similarities, both in style and gameplay. They are by design reminiscent of eachother, so assuming that a game that is similar to one can't possibly be like the other is just silly.

Personally I am more interested in what alternative means of travel you'll unlock in the game through powers and or items. Be it special moves, transformations, or certain attacks or combos.
It's always a real treat when you unlock a new means of movement that you weren't aware of before.
