Is the Elite Knight armor set one of the most perfectly designed armor sets in all of video games?
>>
No, the normal Knight set is because it has a chestplate. The Elite set looks like it's just got chainmail under there.
>>
It's alright
i prefer Pikachu's armor
had to fucking bum rush through a third of dark souls just to get the armor because everything else was hideous
>>
>>340503769
>covering breast plate with shitty surcoat
>No plate armor above the knees
>Leather gauntlet on right hand
Knight set from ds3 is better when you swap legs with lothric knight set.
>>
>>340503769
Who ever thinks elite knight armor is "perfectly designed armor" is stupid, it makes no sense to have half side fully plated and other fully uncovered. Sure fashionable but it's not the "perfect" one. That would be the default Knight Set in dark souls 3.

>>
>>340504445
Idiot, there is already mobility within the gaps, there is no reason to make larger areas "mobile", it just creates "hotspots" to be focused on.

did you read the interview talking about how many iterations it took to reach this design? they struggled to make something as cool as the demon's souls armor, but I think they nailed it in the end. it is the best on all the souls games.

It's fantastic but because it's also very popular and recognizable among the "mainstream" video game community /v/ has to hate it to show off how coo, more intelligent and counterculture they are.

Fuck yes. It's my main armor in the trilogy, and I even remade it to the best of my abilities in Bloodborne. I love that Soul of Cinder is in a burned version of EKS.

any leather thick and hard enough to be used as armour is at least as heavy and inflexible as jointed plate. There's a reason plate armour made everything outdated. It's better in every way and cheap to produce compared to shit like chainmail.

Alva, possibly farram. Those look better. But the nameless knight or the base knight set from ds3 looks the most realistic, the elite knight set looks like it would be for a ceremonial guard or something

>>340507837
Depends on the game really.
People can like both styles.
I just want consistency.
For example Boob armor doesn't annoy me in general but in souls it is beyond retarded.
>>
>>340504720
That's how Rome did it faggot ever hear of gladiators now kill yourself
>>
>>340504797
>Cheese knife on belt
It most likely serves the same purpose as a Ballock or Rondel Dagger. The handle looks a tad short and stubby but it still looks perfectly usable given its purpose.
>Too long flaps that can get snagged between bushes and grabbed by enemies
Because surcoats were not a thing historically? Although they sometimes were very ornate (as this one is), they're weren't just for fashion; they let your allies on the battlefield know who you were more easily and they kept the sun off your raw armor, preventing it from getting hot and causing you to overheat.
This one looks like it does all three quite well, though it does take the "coat" part a tad literally.
As for the using it to grapple onto to, it's a fairly moot point.
There's much better places to grab on to in order to gain leverage on your opponent.
It's also probably high enough up from the ground to not snag on anything.
>Belts
It's not like knights always had their swords out, and in real life they don't just hover over your back when you're not using them.
To get around this bugged mechanic, they tended to sheathe them in something called a "scabbard", hung near their waists by, you guessed it, belts!
>Flammable clothing
Most Medieval clothing is flammable, the clothing used in combat included. Thermal weapons (like firebombs or flaming arrows) weren't too common and thus not too much of a regular problem.
Hell, even on the rare chance you got hit by one, your the fact your clothing is flammable wouldn't matter as these weapons often already carried flammable substances like pitch or oil with them .
>Heaver if it's wet
Ah yes, because knights are known for fighting underwater. Even if it started to rain, the added weight would be minuscule next to the weight of the armor itself.
Besides, knights already wore a lot of clothing under their armor as well and that was never a problem in the rain.

>Best armor
Least you got one part right you dumb frogposter, now begone!

are you for real? look at it. it's not realistic at all

Boobplate is fine when it's on a big guy like Smough who's armor is mainly for decoration and not protection.
When the standard knight armor for every two-bit grunt has boobplate, I start to get a lil miffed.
>>
>>340503769

It's one of the only armors in the game that doesn't make you look like a vagrant.

I don't like it being the "official" kngiht armor though. It is what Oscar wears, and it is the armor of high ranking knights of Astora. I associate it more with them than anyone else.

>>
>>340508709

You can't see shit out of those helmets. If we're going to bring practicality into it.

Imagine playing a first person dark souls game. No one would use helmets that obscure your vision like that.
>>
>>340508829

Wearing a fully enclosed Armet along with plate greaves, pauldrons, vambraces, and gauntlets with no breastplate is stupid.
>>
>>340508894

Armets offer a surprisingly high amount of visibility, especially when compared a sallet or an enclosed bacinet. Also, you can raise the visor.

Unless you're wearing a coat of plates under the surcoat, which he is (See those little rectangles hanging over his crotch.) and chain under that. The elite set is basicly half plate with something a little more durable then a aketon. Ill admit the left arm could do without the gauntlet. Id much rather that on my weaponhand then my shield hand.
>>
>>340508894
Knight helms only really block off your peripheral vision. Your central vision is largely unhindered.
For a game like Dark Souls where your head always tracks the enemy you're locked on to, it wouldn't be much of a problem if you were forced play first person.
Ambushes might be harder to spot and the constant spin of rolling might make you absolutely nauseous however.

>>
>>340509604
Platecoats were still in use during the 15th right? I''ve only really worn armour and have a rough idea of when different types were used. I had to google when the armet started being a thing.
>>
>>340509365
I don't think those scales / brigandine goes all the way up to the chest. Those look more like mere tassets to me. But it is a plausible explanation.
>>
>>340509473
>When will this ever end?
Judging by the fact its been 800 years and it's still going, not anytime soon sadly.
>>340509590
Yep, it's back along with Drakeblood Sword and Spirit Tree Shield, all are fairly late game though (not counting sequence breaks).
You get the armor after defeating a summoned Drakeblood Knight in Archdragon Peak and returning to where you found the Path of the Dragon gesture after Consumed King.
>>
>>340503769
It's alright but... misses some of that EDGE
>>
>>340509758

Armets, weren't a thing until the mid to late 15th century, however the fluting on the armor in Dark Souls suggest a 16th century design. Also, platecoats were pretty much phased out completely by the late 14th century.

Well Hunters tried, but beasts tear through actual armor like paper so it was made obsolete. They switched to something lighter to attempt to survive longer by not getting hit in the first place

They also tried stupid shit like:
"A widespread belief of the period was that "beast blood crept
up the right leg," and this led to the double-wrapped belt."
The last use of metal was little pieces of brass, "At the time, some hunters believed that certain metals would guard off beast blood" which they found quickly enough that it didn't work either and was mere superstition.

Being a hunter is suffering, Anon. They can't fashion themselves with pretty shiny metal like in the good 'ol days.

Memes aside, I actually really like the look of this set. It's a shame that the helmet looks like a smiling frog and there's only a black wall behind it. Gloves and Leggings also look odd and the chest goes with absolutely nothing, but to me they all look good together

The set goes well with Black Knight shield, Dark Sword, and Dragonrider bow. I feel so bad using all three on my quality build to steamroll NG+/NG++ so I can get the upgraded rings for my low-level invasion builds.
I feel worse and worse every time I kill an invader in 3-4 hits since my Dark Sword and bow both have ~550 AR.

Wiki description of Maximilian armor reads
>The armour is still white armour, made in plain steel, but it is decorated with many flutings that may also have played a role in deflecting the points and blades of assailants and strengthening the structural strength of the plates.

Compare that to the description of the FLUTED Set (a white armour)
>The fine grooves are designed to enhance the protective effect of the thin iron sheet.

I'm pretty certain the set is supposed to be at the very least stylized after Maximilian Armor. Everything but the helm looks dead on and even then there were multiple styles of helmet used such as pic related. It's not a stretch.

If it's not Maximilian what the hell do you think its supposed to be.

There's actually a cannoneer holding a point with his cannon in the forest, being protected by rifleman. Guess what, they all turned to beasts

Beasts for the most part are retarded, you can just create barricades offering a path of lest resistance for the beast, funneling them into well prepared choke points and kill zones. For the odd beast that slips past the line? Simple, just have secondary and tertiary lines prepared that kill any beast in sight (this is the only roll that Hunters would be remotely useful in). Hunters are obsolete inefficient trash. Maybe if Yharnam was less filled with crazy religious nuts and more with practical thinkers, they could have used a more sensible approach.
>>
>>340513413
>Hunters tried all that, it didn't work. Beasts don't give a fuck about bullets; even cannons barely slow the big ones down.

Yet melee weapons that move at much slower speed and have far less kinetic force does kill them?

Any media that has beings that can shake off bullets like it doesn't matter is totally under estimating the destructive power of bullets. It's simple physics. If you're made of flesh, a canon ball is going to wreck your shit.
>>
>>340512750
>>340513413
>FUCK! Captain, the guy who was manning the cannon turned into a beast, what should we do!?
>Shit, did you try letting him keep the gun
and pointing him towards the other beasts? Hell, give him your sword too, I think this is the break we were looking for.
And thus Hunter's were born.

>>340513038
I like this set but the helm reminds me of an cycloptic Asian stereotype with the slit in the front acting as a squinting eye and the lowered front looking like a set of huge buck teeth.
Maybe I'm crazy.
Still one of my favorites.
>>
>>340512460
Shit like this is why any setting where zombies defeat the military is retarded.

Imagine what a cannonball would do to a group of zombies

Now imagine if we shrunk it down, changed the shape, and stuck it in something that shot 500 of them a minute.

From the fucking air.
>>
>>340513610
Yes, because those weapons are fucking magic.

I'm not kidding, take a close look at all the melee weapons; they're inscribed with runes, and any decent one will have blood gems in it. Beasts are a supernatural threat beyond mortal weapons, they require a supernatural response.

Hunters are ALSO superhuman. They aren't just dudes in edgelord coats with giant switchblades, they're high out of their minds on monster blood.
>>
>>340505151
You do realize that if that were the case the armor type would be redundant?
>>
>>340513413

That's retarded, the sheer amount of power the cartridge of a classic military breech loader of the late 19th century never mind a fucking cannon is insane. The kinetic energy packed into those bullets and the volume in which they are dispersed, dwarfs the amount of power the faggot anime weapons the hunters use.
>>
>>340513610
The melee weapons make them bleed and are designed to cause as much dirty wounds as possible so the beasts don't just clot the hole up in a second.

>"""""""set"""""""

The entire armor looks like what happens when some dude goes on a shopping spree at a renfaire event.
Most of the stuff doesn't match with the rest.
A 16th century armet simply doesn't look good without the rest of the armor it is intended to be worn with. It even looks much worse with that surcoat.
And the whole mobility argument doesn't apply either since whoever wore that "set" would replace the armet with a more practical helmet for foot combat and travelling if mobility were a concern.

Tl; dr: doesn't look shit but highly mismatched and rather impractical

>It's simple physics.
You're arguing for the laws of physics in a game that takes most of it's direction from Lovecraft. Hate to say it but you're on the losing side here bub.

Though I agree it still makes no god damn sense. Cthulhu was dropped right back into the briny deep by ramming a normal boat straight into his noggin. Fucking bullets should have much more effect of beasts than they do, especially when melee weapons seem to work just fine against them.

>>340513861

I can't stand DaS3's MP any longer, it's 80% roll>L1 100m range poke with your favorite dual wielded weapon of choice, or weapon art chain-stunning.

They also went back to SATURATED RED, BLUE, PURPLE, etc colors for no god damn reason when it was done with more subtlety in BB and could be carried over to DaS3 in some form, like a colored aura, or a slight colored glow in the character's torso.

Sure, BB's matchmaking solution is worse, but works for the designated arena spaces and I find the gameplay much more fun an varied despite having fewer choices on paper.

>>340513586
But that requires preperation/anticipation and organization. Beastblood is like the black plague, except that 1 out of 3 men instead of dying transform into killing machines, making it even worse, decreasing morale even more, and causing more panic.

The circumstances you propose would take some time, this happens suddenly and everyone was infected from the getgo even before shit hit the fan.

Either way it's all irrelevant, hunters didn't do shit and the only ones that survive are eldritch creatures bestowed with super powers and immortatily (you).

Bloodborne had terrible PvP in my opinion.
I hated how outside of 2-3 areas you could only invade people who were summoning for help and how you had to farm Bloodstones, Blood Gems, Runes in the god awful chalice dungeons to get a fair shot in most PvP.

When I actually got into PvP it was worse than DaS since rolls seemed to have an almost DWGW number of iframes (and almost no stamina cost), nearly everything playing/fighting like a dex build, and everyone having an insane amount of quickie sippies (which were at least parryable, one thing I sorely miss playing 3).

Also, for as much as the webm argues how BB has magic, count how many spells he uses.
That's right, it's NONE! The explosion is part of the squid weapon's moveset when used with broccoli head rune iirc, which was only added in the DLC way after launch.

At least all real spells in the game felt pretty unique.
Y'know, all 12 of them, only 9 of which were in the base game.

Really hope this doesn't derail the thread. I honestly had a lot of fun with BB and still think it's just a damn good game. It did a lot of good, unique shit but there were also some parts where I just felt it really dropped the ball that a lot of people don't mention.

I hated how Dragon's Dogma had a gear treadmill methodology when it came to items.

I could never use the armor and weapons I liked for long because I'd end up tripping over a warhammer with 18 heads that did more damage unupgraded than my weapon did Dragon-Forged.
The same went for armor. My all my favorite armor pieces were the basic looking ones and were always beaten out by some ornate, gold-encrusted demigod's set or something so black and edgy it looks life a Reaper cosplay sans the shotguns.

If you tried to ignore these then it made the game a grind since enemies took forever to kill and could kill you even more easily.

Granted it at least was better than some many other games when it comes to high-level armor. Everything didn't turn into generic MMO male PAULDRONS/10 armor or MMO female battle-bikini armor but I'm still a lil miffed.

>>
>>340522136
Not the point
You said everything else was selfish and I proved you wrong
Warriors are best for might but otherwise mostly selfish meat shields
Also guardians have so much defensive magic and heal potential, there's a reason they have the lowest health in the game
don't move the goalposts, just don't

Warriors are the best tanks in raw stats and will do more damage with such a build than guardians mainly because of the phalanx trait combo
But the support potential of the guardian is too powerful to deny

this is true, but stop moving the goalposts damn it

I look like megaman with those legs in-game so I replace them with the regular knight leg armour

It should be warm, it's soaked in blood.

And love

>>340522606
Lmao, never met a guardian who wasn't selfish though. I understand they have great potential, but the fact is, no one uses them.

It looks wonderful, but probably isn't very practical in terms of real protection.

>mfw I main a celestial set to be an all-around support tank, sacrificing my own dps to superbuff my allies where the warrior cannot
>mfw I almost always prioritize the safety of my allies over dpsing a boss
>mfw this is my main
FUCK
OFF

Eh? It's clearly based off real armor. Care to elaborate?
>>
what's a badass looking set in das3 that not everybody opts for? i thought the hobo-knight set you find in the swamp was cool as fuck, but everybody and their mother seems to wear it, so.

You sound like when played a paragon in GW1.
I miss those. Sweet armor, spears, and shouting words and chants to command and inspire my allies. Fucking best class.

The Alva set is top tier too.

Armour + cloth = maximum comfy = best.

Dusk's Dress+Havel's helmet = comfy 9000
>>
>>340521349
I straight-up refuse to use armour if I think it looks bad.

My pride refuses to use garbage WoW-tier armour in games. Fuck that shit.
>>
>>340507017
It looks like a blanket/cloak wrapped around her shoulders, not more armor. The leather pad is for falconry.
>>
>>340509968
Actual knights were in much better shape for moving around in their armor. They were known to do cartwheels and shit in it. The stuff that modern soldiers carry around with them is actually heavier, as is modern firefighting gear.

Beasthunting is ritualistic, anon. Nothing in Yharnam made any fucking sense anyway.

Later plate armor gave you great mobility. Better than thick padding or chain. The joints were very well-designed and it's much lighter than it may seem due to how it's distributed.

Any lost mobility would be caused by someone being unused to the weight or precise range of the joints, but as you get some practice and get your balance right you will be almost as agile as a naked person.

The added weight will make you move around slower, but it will NOT get in the way of swinging a weapon. A solid sheet of leather, padding, or chain laid over the joint will actually restrict your movements more than jointed plates because you will have to bend them to move your wrist and they will block up your elbow.
