What the fuck happened to the GTX 770?
I remember a time when the 770 used to trade blows with the 280x, nowadays the only time that happens is when the game runs like shit on both.

Nothing wrong with my 770. Play games at 1440p just fine still. I might have to lower shadows or turn off hideous preprocessing effects but I still get 60fps.

It's most probably bottlenecked at higher settings with that 2gb vram. Even though most games run fine with even 1gb vram at decent settings, when bumping up the settings it can potentially cause a vram bottleneck. I bet if you turn down something like shadows whilst also maxing out all other settings you'll get much better fps.

I recently RMA'd my GTX 780 and got back a 970. DOOM used to run at 1280x800 medium settings struggling to hold 60 with the old card. Now, I'm pushing 1920x1200 at ultra and easily hold 60+ with anywhere from 50-80% GPU usage at locked 60.
The architecture is pure brute force strength and heavily limited by modern effects. Whereas Maxwell is technically slower, it's just so optimized for game rendering that easily outperforms the Kepler cards when comparing tier for tier. Ie - 970 shits all over 770 night and day. 980 destroy 780, etc etc.

Exactly? The 780 couldn't do 60 fps at 1920x1200 and ultra settings. It was struggling at 1280x800 and medium just to hold 60. Now the 970 is shitting all over the game at 1920x1200 and ultra like it's nothing. I don't even have a beast 970, just a plain jane one.
