Monster World IV was so much better than the rest it hurts. Why that isn't getting remake treatment instead I'll never know. The game isn't even on Steam despite having a fantastic port on ps3.

The colors are bad, the HUD and hand drawn graphics makes it look like a shitty tablet game.
It should be bright and colorful and the character need this Sega kind of neutral face they usually had, sprites needs simetry. I don't know it's hard to explain, it's a matter of feeling and it doesn't feel right to me.

There's far more digital artist than there are pixel artist, meaning a lot of those people can get work making games. Those people tend to be hired for shit games because its easy money. The ones that do tend to get higher for those low budget shit games aren't as good either.

Kill the Pikari doesn't look anything like Dragon's Trap. The difference in quality can be spotted in the screenshot alone. The video just makes it far more obvious.
The backgrounds are incredibly simple and repetitive, shading is flat, and the character animations are awful.

evangelion will show you this. some fight scenes give the strong feeling of a truly huge, giant figure fighting and flinging its weight around, while others (by less experienced animators) fall flat and just look like rubber bands being flicked around at walls.
took me a few minutes to do this.
- colors more reminiscent of the original
- font more like original (rather than that shitty thin hipster web design font, what the fuck)
- hearts are actually the same size as other hud icons
- a few other touch ups
if you're gonna remake a game, don't be lazy on the fine details.
