If he's called Rockman in Japan, does that mean they were actually trying to call him Lockman?
Thats not how their language works.

Japanese ラリルレロ syllables don't differentiate between English "r" and "l" sounds.

In English dumbass

That is literally their word for computer
They don't have a word for it so they say konpyutaa
>Sister named Roll
>Brother named Blues
Dunno OP

>Roll -> Loll because loli
>Blues -> Brews because who knows with crazy Japanese
they wanted to call him Jeff actually

In case you don't know, Japanese use a separate syllable alphabet for loan words, but since they're the same sounds as hiragana syllables the Japanese writing and pronunciation of loan words is very limited. In addition the Japanese can't differentiate between "l" and "r" sounds, meaning you often see wrong romanizations, which is what OP is wondering.
F.ex.
ラジオ = rajio / lajio (English "radio")
ライター = raitaa / laitaa (English "lighter")
アルバイト = arubaito / alubaito (German "arbeit")
アンケート = ankeeto (French "enquête")

More than half the languages ever use borrowed English word for computer. I can vouch for most of Slavic languages.
