I actually enjoyed Life is Strange a lot. I expected it to just be Tumblr: The Game, and in some ways it was, with how transparent the political bias of the developers was, but I didn legitimately care about the story and characters.

The only character even remotely likeable was that photography teacher, and the story was meaningless.
Life is Strange is GREAT storytelling with a mediocre story
It did a great job at making us feel for the characters, making the world feel authentic, and just had a lot of really nice little moments and gave a lot of space to let those moments sink in instead of rushing you around like every other game seems to these days. In terms of storytelling it blasts everything that telltale did out of the water and it's harder to play those game now.
But the story itself is at best generic and at worst hurts the game. The dialogue is often clunky and the plot is ludicrous. It's a testament to the games other strengths that it feels so cheap and in some ways a betrayal to the core values that made the other episodes such a delight and a unique experience.
