Has there ever been a worse ability system in a JRPG? Or a video game in general? Even in context with the story it was fucking retarded.

It was pretty shit, I had no idea where anything fuckin was. Gave up making Penelo a white mage, it ruined my fuckin dreams
>>340361676
Wasn't she a white mage to begin with? She had that curing ability if I recall correctly.
>>340362192
Thought cure would be enough for beginning of game so try get some mage armor for her licence wise. Can't buy armor I want, get to the hunt in that ice place that is the giant ice chocobo. It kicks my shit it in, say fuck it and just grind her as a warrior to kill that ass hole chocobo

FFVI's Esper System was worse
You are punished for levelling up early in the game.
>>340363890
Wait, how did 6 punish you? Just worse stats per level compared to later with certain espers or something else?
>>340360927
The original board was great and allowed for a lot of fun shit leading up to endgame when everyone had everything.
IZ just gave you 12 cookie cutters that all sucked total ass and everyone praised i because they didn't have to plan ahead with points anymore.
Fucking children ruin everything.
>>340364218
Isn't everyone having everything one of the biggest complaints about JRPGs?
it literally was the reason why i quit playing
Zestiria.
>>340360927
I liked it, allowed me to just make my characters into what ever spec I wanted
Sphere Grid is literally the same thing, only linear.
>>340366273
>sphere grid: grind to unlock ability
>license board: grind to unlock license needed to unlock ability, grind to unlock being able to use a weapon, grind to unlock being able to wear equipment
Yeah totally the same thing.
>>340364216
Pretty much. Later espers like Odin give fucking obscene stats.
>There will never be a job system and armor/weapon system like the original Final Fantasy Tactics again.
What was the one where you crafted the abilities with drops? It's been on my mind recently, remember having a disproportionate amount of HP early on from grinding something for the ingredients
>>340362192
Nigga EVERYONE starts with Cure or one square away from Cure
It'd be stupid to not just throw it on everyone
>>340364828
Everyone could have everything but it was the dumbass players choice to equip them with everything. Or make them all the same. There was nothing wrong with the original
>>340364828
By the time you have every square unlocked on everyone, you have a bunch of really great end game gear sets that you'll want to use instead of making everyone dark magic ninjas or some shit.
Variety remains unless you go out of your way to homogenize.
>>340363890
Considering you could beat the game at level 40 without much difficulty, I don't see how the system punishes you that badly.
>>340360927
The license board was the number one reason I gave up on FF XII. Did they ever fix this stupid system in the international version?
>>340373958
Nope. If anything they made it even worse by forcing you to pick a job class for each character they're stuck with for the rest of the game.
>>340373958
if by "fix" you mean make more, then yes
>>340373958
>>340374143

You know I'm actually glad the IZJS edition is getting a stateside release. Now all the hipster faggots constantly circlejerking over this game (while shitting on everything else post-VI) and saying "b-b-but the IZJS is SOOOOO much better!" can finally get BTFO.
