Are there any hidden gems, or are they all buggy and incomplete and practically abandoned?

Everyone seems to play ARK, Rust and whatever flavor of the month survival game gets released. I'm not interested in that type of game.

The Culling is probably the best early access game I've pplayed

Some of the best writing in a video game.

Subnautica, an underwater survival/exploration game, but the pop-in makes it unbearable.
The Trello chart says the July update will fix it though, wait 'till then.

>This game, which was once an amazing space combat moba in development, has been reduced to a horrible shell of itself in an effort to squeeze as much money as possible out of what was an already dwindling player base. The latest patch looked as if it would breath new life into the game, but instead it has just turned Fractured Space into a massive grind for in-game currencies and experience, which can only be averted by spending real world $$ on cases which offer small amounts of them randomly.

that's too bad anon. it looked cool.
>>
>>340320761
this fucking game is way too fast for its own good. You don't have a single second to enjoy anything, it's constantly 200% or you fucking die

Besiege is fun. This gem is not that hidden though.
It's cheap and new update came out yesterday.
Actually I don't know why do they keep it Early Access. It felt complete even a year ago.

AMD bought ATI so....
>>
>>340320882
That review's out of date- devs apologized and made the grind significantly less excessive. It's still there, because it has to be in a F2P game, but it's pretty reasonable.
>>
>>340320659
Seconding Factorio. Very complete game.
>>
Catacomb Kids is pretty damn fun. Hard as balls, but in the best way possible. Unfortunately it seems like the dev will never finish it, because he thinks fixing a few minor bugs every few months is more important that working on new content. But what the game does have as of now is enough to get a lot of enjoyment out of it for the money.
>>
>>340321336
exactly.

AMD, the joke company of computer technology.
>>
>>340321406
whoops. you're right, review even had an update that i glossed over. unfortunately i also glossed over that it was f2p and instantly goes into the trash.
>>
MAV
Factorio
BallisticNG (it's free even, and not in the f2p way)
Darkwood

I also know a few like Brigador or Void Destroyer that were in EA and tured out just fine (pretty damn good even in Brigador's case).
>>
>>340320941
It is though for the most part, any big problems get fixed within a few days and very soon they will have a stable branch as well as the normal one.

finally played this in 4P mode the other day, and holy shit

it's pretty goddamn fun
>>
>>340321307
I dont know why game devs always seem to think that if a racing game is arcadey in any way, then OBVIOUSLY it has to have weapons in it. I think that shit ruins racing games.

The concept of a car having no true top or bottom and being able to drive on walls and ceilings is already such a great concept. There's enough there that all they would have to focus on is creative, and interesting track design, and keeping the gameplay tight and fast-paced. But NO. MISSILES! MISSILES ARE FUCKING AWESOME BRO! NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY A GAME WITHOUT MISSILES.

I have high hopes for it though.

Tower Unite. Fun gamemodes and devs actively show you their progress on trello. Basically a virtual 5 star hotel.

Also, the way people get super autistic with their suites is a sight to behold, for better or worse.

The main problem I have with it is it's essentially a comfy game yet you have to grind gamemodes for the in game currency to get shit for your suite that you wanna relax in, which isn't comfy and it can get repetitive. That's kinda at odds with what most people buy the game for. Still, I like it.
>>
>>340322451
It's a spiritual successor to Rollcage, it has to have weapons.

Exanima is pretty fun and just got an update recently

so this game isn't early access and it came out years ago but it's on steam and nobody ever played it and it was made by some russian dude who never made anything else ever again because his house burned down immediately after he finished it

it's called Hammerfight and it's good and you should play it

I liked the game a lot, too bad nobody gave a fuck when it released. I think it was made by Krank? The guy behind Vangers, another insane game in an insane setting.

That's the problem with video games. We have all these good game, and they get lost in the constant flow of trash, nobody even wants them anymore.
>>
>>340330885
it suffered a bit from the fact that if you let the game calibrate your mouse sensitivity for you it sets it way too low, you have to crank it all the way up unless you're using your mouse on a fucking air hockey table
>>
>>340330501
It was in the first or second humble bundle

>>
>>340318601

Early Access is a bad decision, the idea of paying someone for unfinished work is more of a risk than backing a kickstarter because you're basically buying a product before completion, which doesn't hold in court as well as a kickstarter dev running with the money.

Even if a game is good, it's better to not buy it until it's out.
>>
If you're into engineering games, Factorio & From the Depths are great. Factorio doesn't even feel like early access, it's pretty damn complete as is.

To the contrary, kickstarter is literally a donation. When you buy an EA game you are actually exchanging money for a product. Guess which one laws designed to protect the consumer give a shit about.

>>340331932
Factorio still has a lot of placeholder assets, unless they've got rid of those in the last month

>>To the contrary, kickstarter is literally a donation. When you buy an EA game you are actually exchanging money for a product. Guess which one laws designed to protect the consumer give a shit about.

On kickstarter you're donating money and in exchange are told that you will be receiving a product at some point in the future. If this never happens there is little to no recourse for you.

For Early Access, you're paying money for a product that is unfinished and terrible, and are told that it will at some point be finished. However, the person responsible for finishing it already has your money, and is also the one responsible for deciding what constitutes "finished" and can declare a product finished no matter how evidently unfinished it is. If they choose to do this you have little to no recourse.

In summary, holy fuck, never buy either of them.
>>
>>340331951
Supposedly NEVER EVER.
>>
>>340332109
Have you played it? I keep seeing it and being really interested
I loved TIS-100 and I like space horror
>>
>>340333305
Though, to be fair, who decides what constitutes a finished product?
>>
>>340335239
The consumer. In a normal situation, the consumer has the power. If the consumer decides the product is not finished, he does not pay for it.

In Early Access, the producer has the power, because he receives the consumer's money before finishing the product. If the producer then ceases work on the product despite it not satisfying the consumer, he is not affected. He already has the money, and thus the consumer holds no power over him.

Project Nimbus.

It's like Zone of the Enders and Armored Core had a baby.

Airships: conquer the skies

Bought it for £6 and holy fuck its good. It amazes me it not more well known. Just imagine FTL and terraria had a sweet airship shaped baby. Its early days so there isn't much to it yet but it has great potential.
