Even without parry he's not that bad
His problem is that he's not aggressive enough; he'll land 2 hits on you if you mess up, but you can easily roll away and Estus after taking them.

I consider myself a pretty good Dark Souls player, and I still summon, especially on some of the more troublesome bosses.
But, I'm more pvp centric, and run an UGS with no shield.

If you want some serious help he's pretty easy to learn to parry (his overhead swing with the firesword is relatively easy), slap leo ring on and you can kill him in 3/4 parries
I still can't parry this bastard.
In DaS1 and BB I could parry my way through the game. DaS2 I could parry respectably, but in DaS3 I feel like the window is all fucking off.

It's insane how poorly balanced pyromancy really is in this game. Other than maybe three bosses all the rest are either weak to it or non-resistant to it. Meanwhile magic is worthless against many bosses and a grand total of two bosses are weak to Dark.
