This doesn't deserve the vitriol it got. Would I pay full price for it? Fuck no, but the whole atmosphere of the thing (exploring family memories with random grunge esque songs playing on the cassette player, brilliant) as well as the very sweet yet slightly banal story just made it instantly memorable. I wouldn't even call it a walking simulator. It's more of a heartfelt nostalgia simulator. Just came to this off the back of DOOM and I've gotta say I was pleasantly surprised.
>>
Yes it does.
>>
It's like going back and watching an episode of Dawson's Creek or some early Neighbours. But with some truly patrician music.

Many people don't hate the game, they "nothing" it.

Now the organised shilling from "progressive left" sites was hated. There's a difference

What the fuck?
>>
I got it for $10 and found it pretty enjoyable and comfy.
>>
>>340284325
Could you explain why? My first thoughts on why /v/ didn't like it struck when the lesbo sister stated she was using the "weird" old friend into his gaming (/v/) for his SNES so she could challenge her girlcrush at SF2. That made a lot of sense.

That I can understand, I remember all the furor of it being used as a fucking weapon in the gamergate wars. Looking at it as its own thing in a vacuum though it's actually really quite nice. It actually got me giving a shit about the intricacies of a bloody stupidly middle class American families lives. Finished it in an hour and a half though so I'm glad I got it through Plus rather than paying outright for it.

How is that slideshow not considered racist?
>>
>>340284939
Personally, the game is what it is. Its an okay-not-great story told in a non linear way that awards the players curiosity with more background information on the characters. The inclusion of the "twist" and how certain sites reacted to it was absolutely ludicrous though. It was awarded various PC GOTY awards for this fact alone.
>>
>>340284651
What do blacks want from whites?

Genuinely curious. Seems like they just want someone they can systematically blame for their own poor decisions and mistakes.
>>
>>340284230
>>340284567
How much are you paid to shill this crap here?
>>
>>340285202
Every other media has covered the same trope countless times for a long fucking time. Christ it's not even the first time it was done in gaming. It was really well done in Gone Home, credit where credit's due, but GOTY should extend to more than just story.
>>
>>340284230
Is shit because it served the SJW agenda cause. The tale of a lesbian sister leaving you dry and being in the right just add to the insult. Also the price is dumb ass fuck.
>>
>>340284230
It's meme hate, don't take it too seriously.
>>
>>340284380

Shitty game, shitty story, it doesn't even deserve the score it got. Here's the entire game.
>>
>>340285434
>shill
Shilling only happens for releases that can make bank for companies. GH is well past its sell by date.

>>340285516
I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with a lesbian story, it's been done in porn for countless years, why complain when a serious one pops out? I personally found it really nice, if a little alienating.
>>
>>340284230
Why? The game is honestly siding with forcing you to feel sympathetic towards the faggot sibling that just up and left the family for her dyke lover.

fuck you neo /v/. It's not meme hate.

It's hated because it's basically sjw gaming journalists pushing a agenda instead of fairly rating the game. They give it the perfect score it never deserved.
>>
>>340285713
Must've been patched because you certainly can't walk through the front door without finding the key or find the hidden doorway without the triggering note.

Gone Home only got such high ratings because the creators are in the sjw circle and know people. They are personal friends of the very same corrupted journalists that shilled the fuck out of it.

Gone Home and everyone involved in making/shilling this game are trash and parasites to the gaming industry. This game represents everything wrong with the indie scene and corruption in gaming journalism.

>>340285856
She was a young person in love who's parents barred her from it because it was not the "done thing". She was totally in the right. Plus they add a lot of character to the dad through your poking about his shit, the mum just comes off as a total controlling slut though.
>>
>>340286146
What about the game itself though? Forget everything surrounding it, just Gone Home as its own entity.
>>
>>340286251
It's a 5/10
>>
It had the perfect atmosphere for a horror game. They should have done something with it and yet all we got was a story of a gay relationship which wouldn't be a problem in itself if the game was more than just that. I couldn't care less about gays in my vidya but if its gonna be there dont use it as your main attraction.
>>
>>340286330
Fair point, there's a definite lack of actual gameplay and it relies a tad too much on 90s nostalgia. I fell prey to that of course, those grunge cassettes were fucking brilliant.
>>
>>340286406
Think about how many books, films, albums or even fucking paintings used that as their subject though. I think that's the direction they were going in, making it a game solely because it's the most immersive form of art we have at the moment.
>>
>>340286251
I don't mind that she is a dyke. But the way the told the story and wrote it is just pure trash that a 10 year old could write better. You basically have a plot where you find out she's a dyke and it goes nowhere. It just stays that way from start to end. Nothing happens in the story. You find out what she is and that's it. Any other VN will shit all over this filth.

The gameplay is also trash. Wandering around finding secret passage or buttons to open them is boring as fuck. It's a walking sim. Just walk to every wall and find something is shit gameplay.

The game itself is shit. People have speedrun it in 60 seconds. There's no challenge in this, there's no option in this and there's barely a story. You might as well just hand you the pages of text instead of making you search around a boring house and it still won't be worth your time reading.
>>
>>340285292
To cease to exist. If that happened and they weren't able to make a healthy society it would still be the White man's fault.
>>
>>340286502
I don't trust anyone who calls Gone Home as "brillaant". They're just retarded sjw or white knights just trying to push a agenda.
>>
>>340286896
I get where you're coming from but I took it in a very different way. I enjoyed just exploring the house, finding the old letters that told you how the dad was an old alcoholic failed writer who had to resort to writing Hi-Fi reviews, or how the mum had a crush on the new forestry bloke and there was some clear infidelity going on there. And the sisters story, while basic, I thought was pretty well acted in the voiced notes you get. I suppose I just identified more with the whole 90s aesthetic, I'm still madly into grunge but it's all just nostalgia now. And the game reminded me of that.

>>340287091
I'm assuming English isn't your first language, I meant that the music cassettes you find that are pure grunge were brilliant. Not the game in whole which I though was pretty decent but not brilliant by a mile.
>>
I pirated it and thought it was boring as fuck.
But yeah, the whole "THIS ISN'T A GAME DURRRRR" shit was retarded as fuck. Just /v/ getting triggered like little bitches a game they didn't like was popular.
>>
>>340284230
It does deserve to be shit on. Short as fuck, overpriced game with a cliche story. People expected something a bit more exciting, like horror. I mean fuck read the description of the game and you think it'll be a thriller.

>>340285516
There's nothing wrong with a lesbian story. Literally not even an issue.
>>
>>340288458
> Just /v/ getting triggered like little bitches a game they didn't like was popular.

You're a idiot if you believe /v/ was triggered by it just because they didn't like it.

See >>340285886 and >>340286146

Even you admitted that it's a boring as fuck game. This game clearly in no way deserves a perfect score. /v/ hated it because it wasn't merit that got it a perfect score, but connections of knowing the right crowd. This is basically a sjw game.
>>
>>340285202
Is the twist is that your sister is a lesbian?
>>
>>340285795
I think it's the fact she left the family high and dry to some stranger.
>>
>>340288978
It's not even a twist, you find out 1/3 of the way through. The twist is that your sister went on a roadtrip to pick up her girlfriend who opted out of the army at the last minute.
>>
>>340288969
>You're a idiot if you believe /v/ was triggered by it just because they didn't like it.
No, and because it was popular. That's what he said.

The conspiracies theories are the response, not the cause.
>>
Reminder that this shit is still $20 on Steam. Even fucking Stanley Parable is only $15 (though it's still overpriced) and it has both more content and a more original narrative style.
>>
>>340286167
It's funny how it's tottaly ok to leave your family for a stranger who's just the same sex. If this was another guy it would be rape. If a woman Marrys a guy who's successful and responsible what's bad about that? You how high domestic violence is in lesbian relationships? Or the fact that homosexuals have a high rate of drug abuse? Homosexual relationships are usually toxic and I can understand why a family would be against that type of relationship. We've tried the liberal family experiment and it's done nothing but destruction.
>>
I paid $5. I liked the atmosphere and 90s nostalgia but story was a bit cliched imo
>>
>>340289574
Mate, some of the best romantic fiction is about a girl running away with a guy. Fucking Romeo and Juliet for starters or Natural Born Killers.
>>
>>340289938
>leaving your well established family for a AWOL butch dyke is classic
>>
>>340290125
Well it's an American game and they're all about their individualism. A girl running off to meet her lesbian partner at the behest of her parents is about as yank as it gets.
