This is a game literally composed out of buzzwords. This is the kind of shit that sounds great for investors, but not for making an actual fucking game. I'd say it's appalling that this shit was ever made, but this is the same studio that made Borderlands 2 and Colonial Marines, so I can't say I'm surprised.

Imagine you get credits from playing in dota. Then you buy loot boxes with this credits. The loot boxes contain items like boot, bottle or blink dagger, etc... Blink dagger is a legendary item so you may not get it even after 20 boxes. Then you finally unbox it, and equip to your hero but that does nothing. You have to collect gold in match (shards in battleborn) to active the item.
Then gearbox released the first ""free" DLC hero, which you can get with the $20 season pass or grind 47000 credits to unlock her for ""free"". So people without season pass have to grind credits for both loot boxes and heroes.
Overwatch literally has little to do with this game's failure.
