Fugg you too devs
>>

Yeah that is shitty and is making me feel guilty for buying a CV1. I also envy the Vive motion controllers, but having tried both, the display quality of the Rift is noticeably better otherwise I would sell it and get a Vive.
>>
>vr

call me in five years when they run in 4k / 120hz and are the size of sunglasses
>>
>>340264250

1. The 2nd gen Vive will reportedly be 2k
2. They can never be the size of sunglasses, because of the need to focus your eye on such a close display using lenses. That necessarily takes up a certain amount of space. The more compact you make an HMD the smaller the fov is going to be, unavoidably. Compare the size of the CV1 (110 degrees) to the Star VR (210 degrees).

I could have waited but wanted to have fun with VR now instead of later and I had the money for it. I don't see why you'd say it's not good enough to be worth it unless it's just sour grapes from not having the dosh to buy it right now. If that's your situation I can understand but that is a problem with you, not the technology.

Is that the story about the inbreeding village going missing? Been a while since I read Lovecraft.

Wouldn't the Nameless City or the Dunwich Horror make a better game?
>>
>>340264765

No, it's the one where antarctic researchers uncover an ancient alien settlement and release some sort of nameless horror from within it.

I dunno about which one would make for the best game desu. The story you were thinking of has already been made into a game, Call of Cthulu.

Yeah I know, and that game was awesome. That hotel sequence took me so long to build up courage to clear.

Need to dig out my "Collective works of Lovecraft", it's been too long. Don't think I've read that one, sounds interesting.

Check out Airmech Command then. It's basically a modern remake of the Sega Genesis realtime strategy game Herzog Zwei. Think Command and Conquer except you are present on the map as a mecha that you directly control and can transform into a jet, and the enemy has its own as well.

realtime strategy isn't 4x strategy though

NIIIIICE! My Vive should be arriving this week, I'll definitely check this out. Got a shitload of VR games already installed.

Its oculus.

My Vive is collecting dust. Absolute waste of cash. While it has superior hardware, it has fuck all games to play on it. Oculus gets AAA well made games, we get shitty shovel ware from devs who are trying to cash in on the product.

Is there anything on Vive that isnt a shitty technical demo by soem basement dwelling "indie" dev?
>>
>>340265880

Seriously. Why the fuck didnt i get the oculus, it actually has fun looking games.

Can't you emulate the Rift using a Vive?
They're practically the same thing.
>>
>>340270268
>>340270227

I have Rift, and while I think it's a better overall HMD in terms of display quality and ergonomics, if I knew Oculus was going to pull an Apple I would have gone with Vive.
>>
>>340270623
Dont worry, there are hacks like ReVive that let you play Oculus exclusives anyway

Vive has better the objectively better display quality. Better brightness, less glare and wider field of view.

The ergonomics are perfectly fine if you take 5 min to adjust the straps for a good fit, something that most reviewers obviously completely neglect to do because they're retarded millennials.
>>
>>340270227
>he doesnt know about ReVive
>>
>>340269860

>>
>>340270807
>Vive has better the objectively better display quality.

No it doesn't, otherwise I would agree with you. I don't, so it isn't objective, but subjective, as are most questions of how the eye percieves something.

Brightness is not a good thing in an HMD because it's very close to the eye. Not much light is needed there and too much will harm your vision over time.

"Less glare" means that the Vive uses lenses where you can see the individual fresnel ridges instead of using a hybrid lense design to conceal them, at the expense of causing "god rays".

Both god rays and visible fresnel ridges are bad, it is a matter of opinion which is more distracting, though I can see the Vive's circular ridges all the time during gameplay but can see the Rift's god rays only during high contrast scenes.

>The ergonomics are perfectly fine if you take 5 min to adjust the straps for a good fit

This is a lie, as attested to by many reviewers stating frankly that it is heavier, the weight is all at the front, and it causes sweat to accumulate on the foam facial interface.

Now, it is fine if you personally prefer the Vive. But throwing around words like "objectively" so casually will only make you enemies in life. Google "E-Prime" for a method of preventing such an outcome, for your own sake.
>>
>>340271329
Unlike you I actually own both, so I know your meaningless blabber is just your buyers post-rationalization kicking in.

>Brightness is not a good thing in an HMD because *insert bullshit*
honestly, that level of rationalization. I can't even.

>visible fresnel ridges
the fresnel ridges are not at all visible during gameplay. You are basing that "opinion" on someone taking shot with a camera, which highlights the ridges.

>the weight is all at the front
complete fucking bullshit. If the weight is on the front, then you've failed at adjusting it properly.

>it causes sweat to accumulate on the foam facial interface.
it causes it? So when you sweat in the Oculus (which you won't, since you'll be sitting down like a handicapped person due to no roomscale), it magically doesn't hit the Oculus face frame?

Please just shut the fuck up, as you obviously have no fucking idea what you're talking about. No one is paying you to shill.
>>

>Unlike you I actually own both, so I know your meaningless blabber is just your buyers post-rationalization kicking in.

Prove it with a time stamped photograph, then.

>honestly, that level of rationalization. I can't even.

This isn't a rebuttal, and "I can't even" is Tumblrese.

>the fresnel ridges are not at all visible during gameplay.

Yes they are.

>You are basing that "opinion" on someone taking shot with a camera, which highlights the ridges.

No, I am basing that off extended use of the Vive. The only way I can imagine someone not noticing the ridges is if they have never used any sort of HMD before and don't know what to expect.

>complete fucking bullshit. If the weight is on the front, then you've failed at adjusting it properly.

....No? All the weight actually is up front. Look at the design of the HMD itself. The straps are also elastic like the DK2s so however well adjusted they don't help to support the HMD as well as the Rift's nape hugging rigid support.

>it causes it? So when you sweat in the Oculus (which you won't, since you'll be sitting down like a handicapped person due to no roomscale), it magically doesn't hit the Oculus face frame?

It's more that the Rift is lighter and better balanced so the interface doesn't press on your face like the Vive, which is held against it by the elastic tension.

Room scale is a cool gimmick. The motion controls are the only actual must have element of it and Oculus will have better ones very soon.

As a movement solution it has some pretty basic problems. Being able to move a couple feet in each direction isn't actually a useful or compelling way to get around a game world.

Teleporting feels weird and fake, as you don't use it exclusively but are basically repositioning your tiny "movement zone".

Based on what I have seen, the Virtuix Omni is a far superior method to walk or run in VR. I have seen only glowing reviews from everybody sent a demo unit.
>>
Addendum:

>Please just shut the fuck up, as you obviously have no fucking idea what you're talking about. No one is paying you to shill.

You should reflect on stuff like this and realize that you've become emotional. It's outbursts of this nature that tell me your support for Vive is because you could actually only afford one and now feel emotionally invested in it and compelled to justify the purchase.

If you calm down, get your feelings under control and compare the two like a rational adult, you will see that although what I have said about the two HMDs is true, there are compelling reasons to support either.
>>
>>340269048
Yes lovecrat was a racist afraid prick
But his works are still greatly influential and shaped horror. You don't have to like the guy to like his work.

Tarantino is a massive bellend but his movies are great

wait a bit, valve is still learning about how to make games for it. They want to make a big title for it that utilizes VR properly.

>mweehh I'm an adult look how adult I am, calm down :v)

You're outside your bubble, go back to /r/oculus
>>
>>340272590
>lol ok

This is still not a rebuttal. Being able to move a little ways in a very limited area is just a gimmick, as it is intended to increase a feeling of presence which is then immediately destroyed when you need to abruptly teleport in order to explore beyond the limits of that small area.

>lie, see above quote.

This is still not a rebuttal, and I haven't lied.

>trolling or retarded, gotcha.

Again, not a rebuttal. Omnidirectional treadmills can of course be done poorly; the Cyberith Virtualizer is terrible for example. But if you google reviews of the Virtuix Omni by people who have put in a lot of hours, they have only high praise for it. Part of what sets it above the Cyberith is that it comes with shoes that have soles made out of an extremely low friction material which also activates the touchpad style dish that you walk/run in.

>You're outside your bubble, go back to /r/oculus

I am not the only person who has called you out for behaving this way, I take it.
