>buying parts for my new computer
>can never find a place that has a 1080 in stock

So when will we actually be able to buy these things?
>>
They're sold out, as every major card does. It'll take a month or two before they start distributing the second wave.
>>
Yasterday i found cards selling at amazon for the right price 699$ for founder edition. I am sure that it can be found else where too.

If you are looking for the custome ones you will have to wait for for a week or two til they shows up
>>
Don't buy this, wait for their better cards to show up. If you need some small performance now, get a RX480 for time being, and later throw it in the trash when better nvidia cards come later this year.
>>
Are the not-shit versions even available for purchase yet?
>>

i thought smoke was coming out of that GPU in image, but it was just a hand

>Don't buy this, wait for their better cards to show up.

I've been doing this for the past 5 years...when will it stop?
>>
>>340254826
You're paying overprice for a card that doesn't do 4k gaming. They'll do a monster card later this year that will be more capable than this.
>>
>>340254826
1070 or the 480 are a good purchase. It was worthwhile to wait for 16nm, since we're not going to get another die shrink for 5ish years. The only thing making me think to wait is HBM2 memory next gen.
>>
>>340254826
The current cards are the reference versions. 3rd party cards (EVGA, MSI, etc) will have better coolers.
>>
If you can, lowball with a 970 or similar card. Wait until tax time because around that time, a good majority of hardware flaws will be fixed, and other companies like EVGA, ASUS, etc., will have gotten their hands on them and added SC+ and built-in watercooling.

I myself am waiting for an EVGA watercooled GTX 1080 to purchase around tax time next year.

>>

The problem with having 2 cards is that there's bound to be bad support for sli/crossfire . 2-4 cards configs are good for working people, but for gaming 1 card is best.

Crossfire/SLI support is fucking terrible in gaming. Single card performance will always be better.

They're putting the same coolers from the 1080 on the 1070. Asus is going to role out with with a large number of cards much more quickly than usual because they have automated the process for making them. We'll see what quality they are though because of that.
>>
>>340258884
using 2 780s in SLI.

top one when playing witcher 3 is always @ 77-80C when playing @ 60 fps, capping @ 30 fps cuts about 10-15C.

and a single 780 never hit 80C when playing with the same settings as SLI. Ofc hitting almost alltime 60fps was impossible but temps were much lower.

In SLI my top 780 is basically a fucking frying pan.
If someone is thinking about going SLI/Crossfire, I tell you one thing, don't, it's not worth the hassle.
In many games you can experience barely any performance improvement and there were situations when I had negative performance compared to single card.
>>
>>340261353
I actually have a 780 and considered SLI in the past. Glad I didn't go that route.

The better cards are coming out later in the year. No logical reason to go for their budget card now. It is meant to clean the slate for the top end stuff. You get rid of the old, reset the foundation, then build on top of it.

It's a good budget card, I agree and its power is a testament to what next gen is capable of, but it's meant as a low end alternative to the pricier future stuff. Be smart for once in your life.

Two years from now, you'll see this:

>Bought a 480 for $200
>520xxSephirothxx is $250 and performs 40% better

I got a 6950 reference card in 2011 that had the same fan design as the Op. Last year, it would hit 90c, and shut off my pc. So I cracked it open fully, and cleaned it out thoroughly. It was either that, buy a new card or let it fry my mother board and cpu.

The fan design in those types of models with a fan to the right side, is like a one way vent. The fan spins, the metal vent passes air inside and out the back. What I'm trying to say is, that if you have pets, that fan design will give you great trouble in the future. All that dust, hair and lint builds up at the entrance to the vent near that fan.

The card in your picture has open grill vents with large fans which is much easier to clean yearly. Now that I know this, I'm telling others too cause it's something they should be aware of. If you have pets, dusty living quarters or heavy lint carpets; don't get the one fan design. Opt for the multifan open grill models.

Pic related was my card and those were idle web surfing temperatures.
