This is a scratchboard I did of Raiden a while back. When you actually look at it in real life it's alot better, because the reflecting light moves with you. This is the most consistent lighting I could get, but there's a little bit of a yellowish hue in the corner for some reason. Ideally, the photo would be silver all the way through.
If you havent noticed I tend to rush most of the lines in my art. I do this to create a feeling of movement but mostly because it makes me feel better about it when I can say "oh, that part was wrong because I purposely did it quick". It also lets me make one very diligent part, in this case his eye, that becomes the focal point because I didnt rush the shit out of it.

Now with crosshatching try drawing perfectly straight lines about 5 times. now draw 5 lines going through the first 5 vertically making squares. To practice draw these lines tighter and tighter.
