The reason the newest character has less Lore is Riot thinks (THINKS) No one wants to read when they could just hop into a 30 to 40 minute match and click around. I've played since Beta, and always enjoyed the work they put into lore, no matter how bad it was. I know people who play now who don't even know that lore exists on the characters. Riot is just putting their resources where there is more interest.

Heroes of Newerth quickly became Blizzard's aborted child. Dota 2 players don't even need to go through the tutorial because the game already has many similarities to Dota 2, including hero abilities. Gladiator and Kunkka, for example (inb4 "but they both drew inspiration from the original dota")
Smite is somewhat decent, because projectiles do not actually home in targets by just clicking them. You actually need to hold left click and AIM. This is why Smite doesn't have a huge community compared to LoL and Dota 2.
But there was a really, really sweet knock-off of League of Legends that was DC-styled. It was a MOBA, but it was actually fun. Some terrain was actually destructable, and you could actually buy items from near turrets in order to be able to stay in lane without having it ass-raped while you are gone or waiting for a reskinned animal with special effects. TF2 is an unoptimized mess, Don't Starve Together will never have actually renewable rocks, which forces server owners to have to add mods to keep people to join, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are mostly dead, Payday 2 is a DLC-fest where only rich people can afford going on with the latest updates and shit, and so on.

There is different style of Pay 2 Win. LoL is a 6/10. DOTA 2 is a 1/10. Dungeon Keeper Mobile is a 10/10.
LoL block heroes and give an unfair advantage to old players compared to new ones. If a old player made a new account and just played high rank match he would be worst than anybody else because of the runes and talents.

You also have people who play Counter Strike that play Overwatch, you have people who play MMO's, Racing game and ect.
It's a big release so every game will lose some players to it.

Fools fell for it early on. It was a fresher take on Dota, which I was completely burned out on for one. I tried it. I thought it had some good ideas during the beta.
Then the power creep happened. Then the "Balance" happened. The Metagame.

All the things this game did was accentuate the inherent problem with DotA and similar games:
One side. Snowballs out of control. And stomps the other.
Nearly every time. Only game where I've seen matches become close more often than not was HotS.
