>>

Casuals can't into CRPGs. And to be fair, out of all those games AoD and DOS really don't belong there because they weren't aiming to recapture the nostalgia of games of old. DOS is probably the only really modern CRPG I can think of and AoD decidedly does its own thing.
>>
I see 4 good games.
And a bunch of mediocre stuff.

Though I'll add that Divinity had an issue with puzzles that were essentially just luck based, or had solutions hidden in way off the track areas that would require you to comb the whole zone to find them, which was pretty fucking annoying.

World design, questing and combat were all excellent though, and I really liked the dialogue.

How is that a negative? Those weren't by any means required to progress

I don't remember them being luck based, and them requiring effort out of you is a good thing you fucking sperg.

Isometric RPG's are a cancer and are usually pretentious text simulators with a primary school students level of what qualifies as "deep" and zero worthwhile gameplay aspects. Any video game with less than 90% gameplay (so games like Uncharted, Fallout 1/2, and whatever this shit is) should be classed as either childrens novels or film.
>>

>>
>>340152951
I have no idea why people bring up Codex when they're basically like /v/ in that they can't agree on anything except that current gen sucks for RPGs, few exceptions notwithstanding.
>>
>>340152972
True, they weren't needed for a main quest, but it's still poor design in my opinion. You can have good puzzles without them just being based around hitting shit randomly until it works. Or, one of the more obnoxious examples would be the switches in the black cove, where you have no idea what to do, and the one you're meant to hit is hidden out of the area in some bushes. That's not what I call an interesting puzzle, it's just cheap.

Also, Baccus rex was a bizarrely placed fight, there was heaps of buildup, then he's just kind of there. As well as the original meteor strike being by far the hardest part of the entire thing.

Plenty were way too obtuse, even if as the other guy said, they weren't required to actually advance, just for sidequests.

And no, having to look in every out of the way area, including inside other things isn't a good thing. You can have effort without it being "just look literally everywhere, there's no hint or reason to think it's in a location, but just figure it out, alright?".

I know it's parroted all the time but DOS really does feel as if Larian let their interns write the game. And then they didn't do anything for the writing in EE and just voiced it all. Because that's a good waste of money. Wasteland 2 EE at least put some honest effort the package instead of making it more appealing for console players and calling it a day.

I thought Dragonfall and Hong Kong were great. Combat wasn't anything spectacular, though, and HK was overloaded in some places.
As the kind of guy who wants to talk to every NPC after a mission, I got way more than I bargained for.
Returns was generic "Pls save Seattle" and the combat was "I hope you leveled Shotguns for this last level"
>>
>>340152606
Nothing?

DivOs, Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong are all top tier.
AoD, SitS and UR are acquired tastes, but great.
PoE, WL2 and Shadowrun: Returns have their faults but are still worth a playthrough.

Because of butthurt. It was the first Kickstarted game they expected would be GOTY 10/10 just because Obsidian was making. I suspect Numenera will suffer the same fate no matter how good it may turn out, because of unrealistic expectations. At least Obsidian is off the hook from now on because Codex doesn't really they're worth anything without Avellone.

That puzzle only took me 3 switches to figure out. The first teleported me away. The second froze me. After realizing the names were associated with effects, I just looked at all the names until I found the "Bloody Switch." With how much everyone (and I mean everyone) was going on and on about blood this, by blood that, blood stone, blood for the blood god, etc. it was outright obvious that was the right switch. And it wasn't hidden, it was just one of the few switches outside the central ring.

My only problem with HK was how the best resolution in the game requires you to do shit you won't necessarily feel like doing. Like talking to that shopkeeper girl repeatedly about her mother's research even though the game really gives no significance nor does it track the fact in any shape or form. Also, you have to rest arbitrary number of times and some other shit. It's no problem if you're playing as a completionist, but I've seen so many comments saying people simply had no idea what to do.
>>
>>340153573

Age of Decadence was fun, but it is minmaxy as fuck. I understand you can't do everything in a single playthrough, and that every build has its flaws, but goddamn some of the decisions were very unclear and could lock you into events that you could only solve a certain way, and if your build wasn't built for that way then your playthrough would be unbeatable.

I'm not against that, mind you. I thought it was funny that I actually made Fallout 1 unwinnable by going into The Glow with only two rad-x, because I felt like a big dick OG with my combat shotgun, but it's way too easy to do in AoD.

Except the bloody switch is hidden separately from the other switches, inside a bush, down some stairs.

If you don't stumble across that switch (and why would you), you're shit out of luck, because there's absolutely no suggestion that you're not just mean to hit the switches in a certain order somehow, or that there's switches outside the area. You're left combing the area for this one particular switch.

It's just more familiar RPG. Hong Kong banks a whole lot more on Chinese mythology and social structure. I did like two optional companions in Hong Kong way more than the main cast so that points to some weak writing, too.

Plus the pace was better. Wasn't drowning in NPCs' problems all day.
HK was fantastic, though. Dragonfall was just better.
>>340154742
Personally I disagree, but I'm somewhat more familiar with the mythology they were working with.
If anything, if it was just the unfamiliarity of it alone I'd put HK over Dragonfall, since they're handling something interesting instead of Dragons, Satan and pinches of the Norse, which was okay in it's own right, but Shadowrun doesn't do anything new.

Shit man, there's only one little offshoot from the main platform to explore, you can see the switch from the platform, and it is NOT in a bush. I can understand why you struggled on it because it isn't just thrown at your face, but if you put even just a small amount of effort into it, it was plain obvious.

AoD: still on backlog
Divinity: it was not a bad game, but as a Divinity fan I can't help but feel somewhat disappointed
Serpent: still on backlog
Shadowruns: the graphics and the UI kill it for me, so much that I had to uninstall after an hour or so. So I'm not forming an opinion on them for now. It may as well happen that some years from now something will click and I'll be able to enjoy them.
PoE: I backed it, and I don't regret it. I could never get into isometric RPGs (with the exception of Divine Divinity, albeit that used a different perspective), they all looked abhorrent to me even back in the 90s. PoE served as a sort of ice breaker for me, and for this reason I got a lot of fun out of it. I might rate it somewhat differently now that I have more experience with the genre, but I don't want to.
Underrail: expected nothing, I thought I was just donating $15 for a good cause that does not interest me. But I got a game that is now one of my all time favorites.
Wasteland 2: not interested.

>I'm not using her, as I can't see what massive advantages she has over my other party members.
Yeah, I almost always preferred other party members but I always had my decker for every mission just in case so that sorta puts me out of the loop regardless.
Still, maybe just take Glory on a mission, test her out (because if it's a bug it's more likely all your controllable characters instead of just your guy) then roll back afterwards and take your main party.
Otherwise, RNG hates you and pumping stats is the only way to help that.

Dragons Dogma

Not much. People just expect the same "game plays itself" experience they get nowadays from AAA titles.

Shadowrun: Returns was legitimately bad

I couldn't force my way through it.

run a tabletop game. go on roll20 if you got nobody to play with
>>
>>340156369
The hardest part is actually in the beginning areas; but that is typical for a cRPG.

What made casuals hate the game however, was not the combat but figuring out where to go and what to do. Some anon made a screenshot collection of all the casuals complaining about no quest markers but I don't have it.

DivOS is literally the greatest game made in the past 10 years. Dragonfall was pretty good. PoE was made by sjw cucks who are afraid of boobs. Haven't played others.

I think the problem is deckers are in general useless outside of the Matrix and specific jacking options because they're specialists. That's kinda what they do.
>>
NOTHING

It's just /v/ who needs to meme about something.

All of them are legit good.
>>
underrail was a genuine surprise for me, actually went and bought it after pirating, hope there's more of it in the future

I agree strongly. Let the story be small - your team, your competitors, a corporation, regional government. Trust in the strength of the IP. We don't need to always be engaged in grand conspiracies.

I think that if you had dreams that ended with your teeth falling out you would probably try and correct that.
The game tells you to go to sleep though, its an optional objective, why would you just ignore it?
I should be directing this at the steam forums, not you anon.

Age of Decadence is my jam
OS was good fun too
>>
>>340152606
One bad thing about all of them is they are all optimized like crap. PoE looks like a game made in 95 and it's harder to run than Skyrim with mods. Div OS is very CPU intensive etc. Crpgs generally have the worst optimization.

UnderRail > Divinity > SR:DF > Wasteland 2 > SR.

Has anyone seen the information for InSomnia/Copper Dreams?

Nostalgia goggles fell off.
All the available data shows that the Hardcore gamers who bought these games never came close to finishing these games and barely play them.

Lemme guess they all play on GoG .
>>
>>340160979
the only thing they could be happy is to go back in time, brainwash any memory of the game, and play it.

of course they will proceed to shit the game for being outdated

Make it happen, /v/, I want a comfy thread. ;-;

Well, at least I do get all of my games from GOG, so...
Although AoD I bought directly from Iron Tower.
>>

at least he got to make Kotor 2, but yeah, it was definitely a waste

I really want Copper Dreams to get funded. "Isometric" is not quite the word I like to see before my "Deus Ex", but it's not a bad start anyway.

Haven't been following InSomnia at all. Anything interesting or unusual about it?
