Was this any good?

It is pretty good, yeah.

Yeah, if you dig games like the Anno series where it's all about setting up logistics and getting everything exactly how you like. Like a zen garden kind of feel. You will always chase after higher efficiency for more rapid production.

This game is fucking grand. Love it.

I regret buying it.

The hostile aliens are no challenge
There's no psuedo RTS elements or anything, they're just a minor nusciance
just before to just after mid-game is an unbalanced mess
all your factories are designed for one thing: making research
once you've figured out how to make efficient research potion factories, all replay value is gone

Updates are so slow, you'll burn out on it in a week and then probably come back two years later to find nothing fundamentally new

Personally? I was expecting some more anti-zerg RTS elements or any expanded late game, but it's just not there.

Multiplayer is kind of meh, nice that it's there, but doesn't really add anything, especially after you've got drones to automate shit

Then after that, producing ingredients for rocket parts.

Pretty much,
but the science-potion factories end up being the bulk of the game since it's the first two-thirds.

then you make the rocket and end the game
doesn't really do anything, just ends it

First post = best post.

Will there be more complexity to come? Feels right now it's easy to run a basic factory in the starting locations. Are there mods / stories to make it more interesting? Seems now you just pump out efficiency modules and never have to worry about anything.

if you liked building walls, turrets, and placing concrete in the Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun game, the answer is "Probably yes" because that's exactly what you'll be doing the entire game. Building an autism turtle fort.

Depending on the map settings they can be trivial or a real threat. Playing with very large biter bases basically makes everywhere other than the spawn point completely hostile.

>just before to just after mid-game is an unbalanced mess. all your factories are designed for one thing: making research. once you've figured out how to make efficient research potion factories, all replay value is gone
some replay value comes from the environment you find yourself in, but yes, there are definitely too many "brain dead" factory layouts which are hilariously over-efficient: 1 offshore water pump, 14 boilers in series, 10 steam engines... 3 wire factories feeding directly 2 green circuit factories (never putting the wires on belts) ... basically using only the "upgraded" versions of the belts+power poles once you get them (normal inserters still have their uses) and setting up factories for them.

the fact that there's no degredation or effects of pollution beyond biter attacks is a damn shame
where's the acid rain? where's the contaminated ground water that needs purifying? where's the "serious industrial accident" type situation for over-filling liquid tanks?

Oh boy. You may have noticed some of the buildings have 'basic' in the name. Want to have several new tiers of buildings and actual metallurgy processes?

Installing many of the mods is quite a hustle for an computer illeterate person, though.

This is an easy solution to make the enemies more challenging and it adds a couple of cool new tricks. It doesn't address the research simplicity though, just makes researching a little bit harder. If the DyTech faggot ever gets his shit together you might want to look into his alternative research system.
