You can't make an effective hybrid class in a game where a specific party composition is necessary and enforced. If they are really half/half "jack of all trades", then no one will bring them because they are just watered down versions of things other classes do better. If you let them specialize into one or the other, then it's the same as just having two different classes.
There's only so many ways to make a class about playing whack a mole with health bars.
