I still haven't gotten over Skyrim. TES' shift towards a more casual gaming experience was detrimental to the series but a massive success as far as pushing a product goes.
I mean when they dumbed shit down for Oblivion, at least the game still had many genuine things about it and still had a proper journal system and encouraged you to explore. In Skyrim everything is just plastic and exploring is not encouraged, in fact if you look at the quest system, it's clear that the game was built entirely around the concept of following a quest marker.
Gaming becoming popular, profitable market was one of the worst things to happen to it. Every dev wants to appeal to the largest demographic of relaxed gamers who don't want to engage too heavily to a game.
Shrine of Storms part 2. That cliffside into the indoor staircase was too trial and error for me. Rest of the game was fantastic though. A shame really.

Because it keeps you from going all in with what you have per run, knowing you've got nothing to lose. That's how the whole formula is supposed to work, it's all over when you die so you take risks and push what you have as hard as possible.
When you can set money aside, it's a waste to die with it or spend it unless you're almost sure it's going to win you a run and if you're playing optimally you never get to take any risks, if you're fairly certain you're going to die it's best to just cash out and suicide and try again.
It's just a huge conflict of interests for the whole permadeath concept and keeps it from being played like it's supposed to.

this happened to me too, except I was playing on emulator so I just cheated. it was the last chapter and I had no herbs and no film and there was a section where you had to walk across some wood planks and it was straight up impossible to avoid getting hit by the ghost in the room. MGS4 is worse. There is almost no gameplay at all. I love Metal Gear Solid and I loved 4 at the time. As time has passed, the ride was great. Up to that point the game was tedious, overly reluctant to let the player actually play the game. The game opens with an overly long "interactive" cutscene. You storm a bunker and shoot brain dead and buggy AI. The game makes you INDIVIDUALLY pick up ammo instead of just picking it up by walking over it. You have to stand on top of it and press E. That adds nothing to the gameplay and gets in the way of having fun. The opening level continued to interject the gameplay with scripted sequences and cutscenes. Every portion of the opening was not showcasing the core game, but a string of gimmicks that did not focus on shooting bad guys using the tools at your disposal.
After the first "level" you have to watch an overly long cutscene of you being saved after washing up on shore. You are then forced to sit through your character literally sitting in a chair in a mental hospital just watching shit while he inner monologues. The game takes itself so seriously but when you finally snap out of your coma you are still ripped as fuck and ready to shit on Nazis. It had been 13 fucking years. Sure that could be funny if played right, but the game is 100% serious all the time.
You fight through the hospital, get in a car, cutscene. Go to Polish GF's house, CS, kill Nazi in an "interactive CS". CS of you deciding to leave. FINALLY you get to the game again and that is where I snuck around. I took out the first area with no one seeing me. Then the game forces you to go full frontal when it just showcased how you could play your way. You can get back to sneaking but the whole segment is indoors and claustrophobic.You clear another outpost and 2 mechs show up. Shit "boss fight" then CUTSCENE! INTERACTIVE CUTSCENE ON A TRAIN! SEX CUTSCENE! ANOTHER CUTSCENE!

idTech 5 is such a steaming pile of shit. The game looks disgusting and hurts your eyes. There is no ansiotropic settings in the options menu. There is no Anti-aliasing in the options either. But the game supports them, you have to enter a console command. But since it resets those option at every time is loads (even after you die) you have to bind keys to enable them again when the game loads. Which is another thing, the load times are stupidly long. When you get killed by a stupid scripted sequence because you didn't understand the highly specific instance of that moment, you are forced to sit through an overly long load time upwards of 20 seconds. Sometimes 40.

Final Fantasy III, V, XI and Zodiac are all classics and among some of the best games ever made.
I got to this cornball of a boss and it was so easy, it was insulting. I hated how simple the bosses in Twilight Princess were so easy and after this fight I just completely dropped the game.
