Other games don't even come close.

star fox 64. that's the game that started my obsessive replaying habits. probably beat it 200 times or so. now when i find a game i like i ignore all other games and just beat it over and over and over and over and over.

Ocarina of Time will never be topped.

Hot damn, why do games suck so much these days? They're not even games, they're just movies.

Remember back when DVD's used to come with a "game" section that was basically a cheap visual novel? That's what games are today.

You will never experience what it's like to play a game like OoT, where you beat half of it, and then suddenly you're in the future playing as adult Link inside a dystopic world where you can go where you want.

Here's hoping Zelda U... you're my last hope.
>>
>>340064432
People are never going to be able to have casual and nice conversations about OoT anymore without mentioned Egorator again, be it his awful playthrough or his analysis video of the game.

SUPER
SMASH
BROTHERS!

>mate staying over
>introduce said mate to Katamari Damacy
>we find the multiplayer, shit was news to me
>he's wrecking me since he nails that spin every time
>laughing like crazy over it, having fun
>next day another friend comes over
>get them started on some of that Damacy
>head off for something, can't remember but gone a decent bit
>come back and new friend has put up all these rules and handicaps against original mate
>still keeps losing, so he has the massive size boost handicap too
>I get his controller
>immediately tell mate "no handicaps, fuck that"

Just like back in them SSB days.

What gets me the most is that he has an entire highly memed video about MMX and "theming" that is dubiously present in the actual game, but in reviewing a game that's actually chock full of it, he rants about his ADD instead.

I'm playing Persona 4 for the first time ever (on a ps2) and I'm fucking amazed on how much content old games had. New games costs much more and provide much less. I'm not a nostalgiafag but seriously there's absolutely no quality right now.

As much a nintendo fanboy as I was, MGS1 changed how I thought about games. And some other things.

Not to mention I didn't have a memory card so my first playthrough proved quite memorable. I left that shit running for days.

Mega Man II.
>>
>>340065559
People will, when you stop mentioning it.

You have a "racism will never die" mentality, which is only relevant to people who keep repeating it.
>>

>>
>>
>>340065868
I never played MGS1 until 2 had already come out and I played the latter first. Kind of a shame, that and the fact that the other proper Metal Gear games hadn't come out in America yet--the self-awareness MGS2 had about repeating the same tropes and narrative structure, which *every* game had done up to that point, would have been cool to notice on a first playthrough...though I probably would have been too young at the time to grasp it anyway.

MGS1 still managed to leave a strong mark on me when I did end up playing it around 2002-3. It's hard to go back to when the sequels have elaborated on its systems to such a point that the gameplay is flat-out inferior in a lot of ways, but you can't deny how influential it was.

Demon's Souls came out when I was 16 so it's ambiguous if that was "childhood".

I'd say DMC3 or Sonic Adventure 2. Nothing really stands out.

Childhood no, youth yes. I'd also lobby that Demon Souls is a generally more impactful game than SA2 or DMC3, even though I like DMC3 a lot more.

You're both right actually. Racism as we know it today will fade but there will always remain a prejudice against things we don't consider part of our group. Even if we were to be accepting of all humans, we would still find something to be "rascist" against. Like E.T. that fucking space nigger.
>>
You know what made OoT cooler than other vidyer? You didn't fucking know about the time gimmick. In todays day and age it wouldve been spoiled a year before release.
>>
OoT
Super Mario 64
Starfox 64
Turok: Rage Wars

Also Aiyden Chronicles: The first Mage. First RPG and first shit game in one. I miss those days.
>>
>>340069461
B-K was one of mine, but I could never get into B-T. Just the fact that it's a collectathon (not in a bad way) with backtracking through me right the fuck off. I like to 100% each level before I move on to the next, and the game being completionist in nature should allow for that.
>>
>>340069727
this game fucking rocked.
>>
>>340070006

Most of the games I cherish when I was younger were more fun without prior information. Nowadays I'm too jaded by obfuscated game mechanics that punish lack of knowledge.
>>

You did if you read Nintendo Power, m8. The vast majority of promo art used adult Link.

That's probably the game that made me realize that video games were more than just a time sink for me and kick-started my love affair with JRPGs up through my preteens. Another big one.

Not Youth so much, but I was 14 when I first played Red Dead Redemption (20 years old now so you can't call me underage). Never grew up with a dad and never had a strong male figure in my life. I saw John Marston as what a good man should be and listened to what he had to say and stuff. Pretty autistic sounding I know but prior to that I was a whiny little edgelord and after I felt like I was a fairly well adjusted person.

I definately can say my personality has had three periods so far, regular little kid doing what regular little kids do. Edgy little retard teenager, and then post RDR I became fairly normal.

Pretty fucking autistic post I know but I am a functioning member of society now and I honestly don't know if I would have been if not for seeing John Marston as someone to look up to, if anyone understands what I'm saying.

>>
>>340065868
I think it's really hard to explain just how much MGS changed the rule book for gaming. There hadn't been any game that felt so cinematic, blending the gameplay and cut-scenes so seamlessly. From little things like the way the games opening had credits running over it to things like the sheer amount of voiced dialogue. It was mindblowing.

Of course, it wasn't just the story elements, the game felt really clever as well. The way you could interact with the world and the effects were crazy. Leaving footprints in the snow (that the guards actually followed), or making noise to draw the enemies around. Stuff that wasn't that common.

Most games today owe a big debt to MGS, especially in the cinematic styling department. It's just a shame most game developers forget how innovative and fun the actual gameplay was at the time.

The games that defined my youth were Mario, Final Fantasy 6, Link to the Past, and Pokemon. N64 games really didn't leave an impression on me
>>
>>340071491
Bro, it's not that weird, no matter what that judgmental faggot says. The whole reason kids had nervous breakdowns over Optimus Prime dying in the 1986 Transformers animated movie was because he was such a father figure to kids and the creators never realized it. Having a fictional figure as a father figure is tragically commonplace to generations of the '80s and '90s.
