But nothing can learn dragon rage in rby's early game. The soonest you get it is via Gyarados at level 25 and TM 23 only rolls around at the game corner for 3300 coins. Even then it has no application for early game mons either.

I think they've acknowledge that in their own way. We got no third version or sequels for XY and bait for SM existed in XY (promising some sort of battle facility no less) showing its development was planned early on, plus it's taken more than a year to develop unlike older entries. I think SM looks real promising from what we know.

I don't know, when an enemy Pokemon can KO anything I have in two turns I know I'm scared. You only start having >120HP around the lv40 range, which is when you'll be mopping up the League. With that in mind, it does have its uses in your own bag of tricks as well, if you know an opposing Pokemon has low base HP for example, or if you have a Pokemon out whose other moves are resisted/the opponent has particularly high defense and you can only attack with phys (or the opposite, with only special against a spdef tank)
