It's faster than the average modern FPS but for a Doom game I think it should have been slightly faster.
Now it sounds I didn't like the game, I did and it's still way better than anything I feared it would turn out, but it's not anything deserving huge scores.

I can confirm it's almost eerily like the feeling of playing DOOM/Quake, they really nailed it.

yeah, except that you're having a mini cutscene being thrown in your face every 5 seconds during regular gameplay, be it pressing a button, picking up a new weapon or upgrade, falling from a high jump, pulling yourself up to a ledge, doing a glory kill, grabing a keycard. Catcher is debatably shit because it doesn't do much except explore the pathetic life of a whiny teenager. It's only relatable to a few people, but what it does do, it does well, so it becomes a very 'love-it or hate it' kind of book. My ex girlfriend was an edgy teen who didn't know what she was going to do with her life and was quite like Holden in some ways-so she quite liked the book.
I can't relate to the character at all so I hate the book.

As someone with a humanities degree with a major in Eng Lit, I agree with you insomuch as I can't stand Fitzgerald at all, but context matters. A lot of American classics like Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises seem quaint now, but when they were written they were pretty revolutionary in terms of content and form. The Modernist literary movement completely changed the landscape of literature. A lot of the stuff written was really complex and inscrutable, so academic types love to dig through these works for an infinite variety of interpretations. Hemingway for example made a conscious effort to say as little as possible in his writing; It's up to the reader to intuit the meaning. So basically yes they seem boring now but they were pretty crazy at the time. The same is true of many 'classics'. We study them to see where our literature came from and thus how it got to where it is.

I think that when he meant cutscenes, he meant when control is completely taken away from the character, the camera becomes more cinematic (and not through the eyes of the protagonist), and it begins to look more like a movie.
If those are cutscenes, then those are the best kind, for you still feel immersed and they are quick enough to not distract you for long.
Seriously, 95% of the levels is gameplay. Each one. These "cutscenes" could have been very different, in a lot of bad ways.

I could list quite many more major issues of the game, with the biggest beef I have with D4 being the stupid, tiny, Hard Reset / Pain Killer style "combat arena" rooms, where you get locked into to fight spawning waves of enemies. They repeat this trick way too frequently, with very little enemies actually being pre-placed and roaming the maps. This alone makes it feel very NOT-Doom.
Next would be the annoying platforming, and the fact that they just had to tack on THREE different upgrade / level-up systems, with your stock weapon damage, ammo cap and movement speeds being laughably low without spending points on those RPG menus.
