It's pretty fun. I've grown a little tired of playing it, but that's after beating it several times on Legend and Chaos difficulties (Fury is still fucking me over though).
I'd say it's less polished than Dragon Crown to a certain degree, but the combat isn't as finicky because every entity in battle is on the same z axis. Basically, it's a damn fine effort at a 2D stylish action game.

Muramasa was a bit shallow in terms of storytelling compared to Odin Sphere. Dragon's Crown had almost no plot, and Grand Knight's History was a handheld MMORPG.

Well, they're not the only devs to do that, some Japanese ones in particular like to make a sort of mish-mash of different mythologies in some of their games. SMT, Touhou and Type-Moon being pretty obvious examples.
It's nice though. I like that less "mainstream" mythologies get used in games, it's refreshing.
