Not every game is an RPG. Grinding isn't a necessary mechanic to facing bosses. Bosses are supposed to be a test of your mastery of game mechanics, so you can prove you deserve to overcome the harshest thing the game can throw at you before moving on to other things in your life.

If the game ends with something like a quicktime button prompt, it's like the developers told you to go home and fuck off, not caring if you got gud or not.

They aim to make fucking games, they don't start off with "Oh it's going to be a story about an old man and a little girl..."
it's "What if you could fucking launch enemies into the air with a fucking 5 foot sword, and then juggle them with your twin pistols?"

Of course some western developers make great games and some Japs extremely shit ones, but with way too many western games you can tell they came up with the story and characters first and then slapped an TPS on it.

Not really. I actually fucked around on purpose and tried playing Dragon Quest V by going from point A to point B and the only times I actually had to stop and grind were at the very beginning, and a few times when I wanted to add a specific monster to my party. Sure RPGs give you the option to just level up to 99 and mash attack through every fight, but most of em that aren't horribly balanced (looking at you, Luminous Arc) require little to no grinding as long as you play smart.

Except in most games, the first boss fight is typically within the first 20 minutes of the game. Of course if you take too small of a sample size about "what the game is about" you're going to find contrasting elements. What a fuckin dummy.
