It's weird. I think it has something to do with how they view the rounds. It's 3v3, but no assists or switching like other team-based fighting games.
So depending on whether you're going down to the wire or outright beating them with one character, that's three separate characters you're playing against.
I guess part of it is also match-up knowledge because in Marvel 3, you can cover your bad matchups with an assist or switch out via DHC or a hard tag. In KoF, you gotta understand that matchups for each of your characters and which position you want them to play. To me, it's not terribly overwhelming, but I can understand why people make bullshit excuses about not wanting to learn KoF.
