Widowmaker is more useful on attack than on defense in many situations (with exceptions of maybe Hanamura and Anubis) because defense positions are gonna be more static than attackers', especially in payload scenarios.
Of course it's down to the Widow's personal skill and willingness to keep on moving. Nothing's worse than a sniper that just sits in one spot and waits for a random shot.

I've given up bothering trying to win games. The matchmaking will pretty much ensure that you'll reach a stable 50% win ratio unless you're one of either the very top or very bottom players, so there's very little point in giving a shit. If the matchmaking has decided that you're due for a loss, there's little you can do about it. Every once in a while, you get a decent matchup though, by pure chance. Kinda wish it was just random with no matchmaking whatsoever. Wouldn't be much worse than what we have today, and would result in shorter queues.

However, I do think in general you're matched up with higher-level players (the shittier ones presumably) if you're a good low-level player. They're getting pushed down on the MMR scale, you have the chance to be pushed up. Of course, there's no reason you would want to get higher and meet more MLG_pr0_420XxX players, but hopefully those will more or less disappear once ranked is released.
What I'm wondering though, is whether or not MMR is saved between sessions, and then averaged out, or if it just takes the most recent games. In other words, if you can jump up and down the MMR scale quickly to account for errors in calculation. Because otherwise, you might have done well a few games and then get "locked in" a high MMR place and then just get stomped all the time. It all depends on how they measure this rating, but alas, we'll probably never know. I just wish they had fucking lobbies instead.

Dash is his big thing, learn his combo or rightclick+melee cancel+dash for squishys

In the context of reflecting ultimates, Genji is a lot better against Mcree and Reaper. (Especially the latter, he basically just instagibs himself since he can't even aim away from Genji or cancel.)

Yes, you're not gonna kill him with ONLY dash. I'm saying you can cancel reflect with that, should you need to. Basically:

speaking of, does anyone feel the map design can break down a bit in coherence if the attackers go full HAM? it really destroys the intended game flow if the attackers push right out to the defender's spawn whilst working on the first objective. i don't know if its enough of a thing to warrant changes, and changes would be pretty big and complicated to implement - like invisible walls the attack can't push through deeper into the map, until they take previous objectives, or double defender respawn time but put all the spawn rooms closer to the front.
pushing to spawn in a way that requires them to group as six before being able to move out to the front is a thing sure, but it feels like a thing the defense should be doing to the attack. thats how the maps and timings are balanced. the attack spawn closer so they can trade kills 1-for-1 and still grind out some forward momentum as defenders have to run back. but the defense spawns so far back if they can't get outta spawn safely without dying 1 by 1 the map is fucking over.

Pharah gets shat on by hitscan weapons, so go soldier or even Bastion (recon mode) and take her down. Of course, Widowmaker is also very good option, but if that's not an alternative for you...
As for Widowmaker, she has trouble with Winston, Dva and Genji, and Pharah (ironically enough) can also annoy her to no end. But the go-to alternative is Winston. Basically, just jump on her, hold down M1 and never let up. She can't escape the monkey, and he has more HP than her. TRULY good Widows can technically see you coming and double-headshot you (leaving you with 50 HP), but you have a shield for that. Pretty much same deal with Dva, just fly up in her ass and chase her down.
