>>
>>339890425

Chests adapt to your behaviour.

If you pick lots of spell tomes, then the game will generate spell tomes in your random loot. If you pick lots of enchanted gear, it will generate enchanted gear. And so on. Taking everything or nothing is a bad idea. I would prefer it if chests generated a single high level artifact though. The best thing is to train the game to generate ingots, ores and precious stones.

During the Dark Brotherhood quest to assassinate Vittoria Vici, I cast a fury spell on her and forced her fiance to kill her. This entertained me.

During the Forsworn Conspiracy quest I refused to go to jail and instead dropped the master Illusion spell that forced all the guards to kill each other as well as everyone else in Markarth. Then I stepped outside and surrendered to the only remaining guards. Once inside I played both sides of the conflict, joining the forsworn just long enough to get their reward and escape, then killed all of them. I got the second reward from the Silverblood guy since I killed the Forsworn, and was pardoned of killing all of Markarth. Then I killed him, but since the city was empty there were no witnesses.

At the climax of the Thieves Guild questline, I learned you can kill Mercer instantly by shouting him off the big statue. Otherwise the quest is boring.

In general I had some fun seeing just how unprepared the game was for an Illusion/Conjuration mage, even though the things you could do were extremely limited.

Skyrim was my first TES game, but now I'm interested in seeing what the others have to offer.

god damn skyrim is a comfy game though, exploring the icy north areas like the lighthouse/mages guild had a fantastic atmosphere

were there any decent survival mods?

Generally speaking, most of Skyrim's quests were very forgettable. Probably the only ones I can remember off the top of my head was the Markarth Conspiracy, the Werewolf one in Falkreath, the one where you travel back in time in someone's dream, and the guild quests I guess.

Even the Deadric quests were generally pretty boring and forgettable. Companions and College quests were yawn inducing, I can't even remember what the Companions was about.Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, like usual, are the best parts of a TES game, even if they were stupidly short.

Oblivion easily destroys Skyrim in terms of quests... I haven't played through Oblivion in years but I still vividly remember some of those awesome quests, like the White Stallions, the tragic Grey Prince quest, the one where you go into a painting, the Scamps who follow you around, the stolen painting in Chorrol, those two twins who were were separated at birth and were complete opposites... Goddamn, so many wonderful quests that weren't even Guild related. And the Guild quests were even better, they somehow were even able to make the Fighters Guild interesting with a great twist at the end.

Anyone know what happened between Oblivion and Skyrim? Why did the quality of writing and quest design drop so significantly?
>>
>>339896039
Of course they would, and they're gonna cut out beast races so they can get away with it.
>>
I liked both sides of the Dawnguard quest lines, the vampire side a little more because you get the castle as reward.
I even shot Dawnguard members with the crossbow. Talk about backfiring huh? I admit I used console commands to get more bolts, I dropped arrows I found as compensation. 5 arrows for 1 bolt.

You're probably right. Using Calm spells to make people nonhostile was much less entertaining since all they do is spout generic dialogue. Sometimes you get actual dialogue options from characters that are initially not trying to kill you, but it's mostly a repeat of what makes them want to kill you in the first place. I guess it sets them up for sneak attacks but I don't usually roll sneaky characters.

>>339895914
It worked for me, at least. I looked around for anyone I missed and besides essential characters there was no one left for a while. I had to go outside because the guards did stop spawning in my game.

Even if some of them are a little nicer than the others to mortals they still have little love for mortals on a whole and wish the downfall of the Aedra/Divines and the reclaimation of Mundus. Any power boost to one means a long term gain to the others and a net loss to mortal life on a whole; if Nocturnal and Azula get freedom on Mundus so do Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon. Nothing but bad can ever come from Daedra worship long term.

Supposedly Mercer has Nocturnal's blessing despite spitting in her face repeatedly and defiling her shrine, so you need the blessing too in order to be on his level. Except you don't even get the Nightingale power until after you kill Mercer? Also something about the Skeleton Key being powerful or something.

Nothing about it makes sense, you need to sell your soul to Nocturnal because yes.

>>
>>339900339
I think it might have been some bullshit about the Skeleton Key being able to unlock conceptual things, not just physical locks so Mercer "unlocked" a bunch of power or some shit so you have to serve Nocturnal because the writers said so.

And when you get the Skeleton Key (why the fuck would you ever return it to Nocturnal?) its just an unbreakable lockpick instead of whatever the fuck Mercer did with it.

Its been a long fucking while and the writing was garbage in the first place.
>>
>>339892709
Man even the fucking Daedric quests were so mediocre. I remember for Molag Bal in Oblivion you had to actually corrupt this very kind person who wouldn't even attack you back even if you tried to kill or insult him.

So to make him 'kill' YOU, first you had to find about his wife's grave and desecrate in front of his eyes when he went there. After that you drop the mace molag bal gave you in front of him. The man is enraged so he finally picks up the mace and you have to let him kill you.
>>
>>339900339
He doesn't have her blessing. He is cheesing it with the Skeleton Key.
Nocturne doesn't give you blessings, because she expects you to clean up the mess the group you represent has caused before she is willing to deal with you again.
You literally sell your soul for powers. Contracts and shit yo.

>>
>>339889338
This quest was sad.

Skyrim doesn't have too many memorable quests, but it has a few nice touches lying around. Like when you ask one of the mages about the previous generation of students and he tells you they all went missing. And you can actually find what's left of them or their experiments around Skyrim.
>>
>>339900797
That's a little better, but there's still no reason to actually take Nocturnal's deal since you don't even get the powers until after you've dealt with Mercer.

I recall Karliah outright saying that Mercer is too powerful and you need Noctural at your back to stand a chance. Yet Nocturnal does absolutely nothing for you until you clean up the mess.

So you need to sell your soul for the power to defeat Mercer, but you do not receive the power to defeat Mercer until you defeat Mercer. Maybe it's a metaphor for the only key to the locked box being inside the locked box.

I really don get why you fags say that quests don't change anything in the world

The main quest gets rid of dragons

Civil war quest changes Jarls and guards so that you can basically do whatever the fuck you want in the city because all the guards are more lenient. Plus some cities will get a decimation overhaul.

Thiefs guild prevents all random thiefs on the roads from targeting you as well as more thief guild activity in the cities, plus you can bribe guards without grinding up speech.

Assasins quild prevent you from being targeted by assasins and you get to kill the Emperor.

Mages guild helps you find the Elder Scroll.

All of that adds up to changing the world dynamics.
>>
>>339903079
The quest where you poison the false emperor has the same problem, but much worse.
You can walk into the city in full assasin gear, with weapons strapped to your body and nobody gives a shit, not even the guy who is in charge of destroying your group. The only one who gives you lip for your attire is the cook and she only does it, because you are not wearing a chef's hat in the kitchen.
>>
>>339903502
You do realize the Civil War was literally cut in its entirety to meet the 11/11/11 release date right?

Now the thieves guild in Oblivion are absurd. They might be even more powerful than the Dark Brotherhood over there.

Oblivion thieves are real fucking thieves. You actually had to gather tools and shit to pull off a huge ass heist of an Elder Scroll.

Skyrim thieves are petty crooks who operate in fucking broad daylight and apparently recruit anyone who walks through the town gate. And you have to fellate a Daedric Prince in order to kill some invincible-but-not-really guy in unavoidable combat which has fucking nothing to do with thievery.
