I'm surprised people in this thread are so hung up on people not liking Dragon's Crown. A traditional beatemup lasts for 30-40 minutes. DC is infinitely longer, which increases the chances of growing fatigued with its combat, no matter how nice things are to look at.
I had the same problem with Muramasa - fighting a lot of samey enemies got tedious and spamming special attacks to fight bosses. Vanillaware always puts up amazing art but the games usually come out feeling shallow.

It's interesting that the character power curve is about the same as I remember it being in the original. Cornelius is still a beast, and Gwendolyn seems to lag a bit behind the other characters. Oswald seems a little lackluster too, he takes a lot of swings/time to kill shit and berserk has a slow build up while not lasting very long. Oswalds phase jump thing is awkward, and it seems like he's sort of limited since his really good skills are the magic ones, but I might be playing him wrong.
