I've never had that experience but Fallout 2 is a top tier game. They did casino politics and activities better than New Vegas too.
>>
4 is better.

Fallout 1 was better in pretty much every way
The random encounter rates in 2 make it unplayable
>>
>>339883895
It really wasn't. 1 has a great story but there's very little content and barely any ways to resolve quests compared to Fallout 2.

A combination of disdain for new things and nostalgia clouding memory.

Commonly called getting older.
>>

Good question. Everything about this game was done well. Most RPGs are stale compared to the lore, quests, sidequests, resolutions, implications of decisions, perks, weapons, NPCs. I mean, Fallout 2 is just great. It's hard to beat it. but I'm sure there are better RPGs than F2

>The random encounter rates in 2 make it unplayable
I've never heard this before, what exactly about the random encounters makes it unplayable?
>>
>>339883895
What is the intended encounter rate anyway?
If I remember correctly, it's affected by the processor speed.
Back when it originally released, I played it on an outdated toaster (2+ minute load times on average) and had roughly 10+ encounters between Arroyo and Klamath. Trip to Navarro almost made me quit the game.
When I replayed it a few years ago, I was blasting through the map with little to no encounters at all.
Neither felt like the correct encounter rate.

Holy shit, do you have nostalgia glasses or are you a fake fog wiki browser.

The casinos were just tropes, cliches and memes. Godfather, mafia bullshit. From someone who actually played F2 there is very little original written content in New Reno compared to New vegas

4 families, each with unique plot line which ends up with you becoming a made-man.
New Vegas (the city, not the entire game) was literally nothing. The White Glove Society had the most structurally creative quest of the entire game but at the same time also bugged as hell.

I was getting dozens of encounters when travelling and it was getting annoying having to run away from radscorpions all the time
Getting the car made it a lot easier though

I still think highly of Fallout 1 & 2, but my inability to get into Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment which I missed out on back when they were new, makes me question whether it's actual quality or pure nostalgia.
>>
>>339885868

The only things I liked about Planescape or Fallout 2 were the storylines. To be quite honest with you fampai, you won't catch me crying over the grave of the CRPG genre anytime soon.
>>
>>339885658
Yeah, sometimes running is the best way. Soon enough you'll just kill everything with a hand wave anyway
>>
>>339881630
Oh hey I'm playing that.

The start is pretty hideous and some of the references are really, really on the nose.
>>
>>339885868
Planescape Torment is extremely overrated in my opinion. The story is great but it sucks at the one thing Infinity Engine is good at which is combat. Fallout 2 lets you do and interact with way more stuff.
