Fallout 4 in a nutshell.

Some of them are synths
>>

Go to data then workshops and it will show you what each settlement needs. If everything is fine then stores and dogs will increase happiness. I think robots don't gain happiness so that might lower it.
>>
>MFW the achievement randomly popped for me and it was the tiny ally way settlement
Muttfruit plus a shit ton of doctors in a small space and a couple stores and they are now ok with being in the ally batmans parents where killed in

My settlements happiness starts to go down for literally no reason at about 97 16 level 3 shops 21 food beds inside

Sanctuary doesn't have any outstanding needs, and it has the happiness raising shops at level 3. Happiness is 82.

This.

Found out ten of my settlers were synths and kept making my settlement dip in happiness. Ended up rounding them all up into a fenced area and mini-nuking them all.

Damn synths.
>>
>>339880813
mama murphy also evidently is a bugged piece of shit towards happiness, you gotta off her to get actual 100%
>>339881089
it's all arbitrarily related to your own charisma and the defense value. if defense is deigned to low by the ai your happiness drops because an incident (radiant quest) kidnapping etc happened, of course they game manually forces exactly 3 to be occurring so yeah....

Your charisma amount also effects the population cap, and doing anything that temporarily raises your charisma raises the amount fo settlers that can got here, but when yoru cha drops it causes errors in the other calculations.

the correct word is 'mediocre' by it's actual meaning, not assumed one.

it does nothing explicitly bad, but it also does nothing outstandingly good, it just does the same things beth games have been doing since morrowind.

mediocrity does not preclude popularity.
>>
What the fuck was Bethesda thinking when making Fallout 4? I heard the new DLC is really good, but i don't have any desire to try it out. Or any of the previous DLCs for that matter. Hell i still have most sidequests and exploring left.

Something obviously went wrong when so many people say how dissapointed they are of FO4 and that they got tired of it
>>
>>339880441
You have built a mighty empire. Well Done
>>
>>339881718
>hurr durr what is subjectivity
>>
>>339881826
honestly probably this
"we have no idea how to build the actual new engine and relearn everything that everyone wants, and our jewish overlord only leaves us alone only while we make gorrilions. we have to slap as much godamn duct tape and 'new outlying code' to this as we possibly can."

they are either completely up their own ass and unaware of actual criticism, or are completely aware of their own limitations and desperately trying to avoid making it 'publicly' obvious they can't code anything but their old ass engine.
>>
>>339882337
Perhaps. But that still shouldn't have stopped them from making good quests, make it feel like an RPG, and all of that. Obsidian did it despite the limitations and you see what modders are able to do too. So i think bethesda just wants money rather than making the fans happy. Also will we even get questmods for Fallout 4 considering the voice acting?
>>
My personal beef with this this game is the lack of diversity in terms of locations; everything tends just to blend together.
Also, why isn't there a flat plot of land where I can build a original settlement from scratch?
>>
>>339882464
>Also will we even get questmods for Fallout 4 considering the voice acting?
Yes.

>built-in option to disable the third-person conversation camera
>mod that mutes the protagonist and skips his/her dialogue portions
>mod that shows the protagonists full dialogue options

these two mods plus this option that is already available in the game makes shit behave like the previous games. so yeah, custom quests can and will work
>>
>>339882695
>why isn't there a flat plot of land where I can build a original settlement from scratch?
The Drive-in is the closest you'll get
>>
>>339882908

>mod that shows the protagonists full dialogue options

Already exists and it completely kills the game as it reveals how every option is just the same thing
>>
>>339882908
Right, however by having voice acting in the first place unfortunately suddenly not having it for a quest somewhat becomes "annoying" or immersion breaking. Though if like you say third person cam is disabled i suppose it could work.
>>
>>339881465
I thought they patched that out?
>>
>>339883020
i know it exists. i'm not proposing these mods be made, i'm listing them off because we're talking about custom quests being possible - not the vanilla game's fucked dialogue

>>339883029
that's where this mod comes in

>>339883414

>>
>>339883029
it's not the voice acting thats killing the immersion, but the terrible writing logic they fall into 'because of it'

Witcher doesn't run into this problem because they try to write accounting for conversation, your playing a pre set character, but they try to give the player leeway to express 'through' that character.

bio ware likewise write knowing their character is an insert, they include multiple options and general bs to allow the player to 'roleplay' everyone filates how great you are but your characters masterbatory insert by design.

fallout 4 thinks it can be both, having never done either, and it shows the classic efficiency mistakes dragon age 2 did. try to efficent dialogue options to much you boil all conversation to a quadrant. Saint, Snark, cynic, and clarity. all fallout dialogue is one of those 4, good guy yes, asshole yes, smartass yes, more information please.

you're locked into an origin and motivation, but not fleshed out enough to be a likable separate character (you aren't a Geralt) and your too tied to your origin to be allowed any room to deviate (you can't really insert)

>>
>>339884197
they clearly assumed that was a probably direction players would go and wanted to inform them where diamond city actually was.

god the fucking pacing was so bad. they expect you to traverse over half the entire map doing only main quest, and somehow not get distracted and therefor ignore the terrible quest.

>>
>>339884197
yup, this one is super pathetic. no excuse when it gets marked from a main quest anyway
>>
>>339884384

The thing is, Diamond City will be market in your map way before you ever get to this Wasteland Survival Guide.

Specially since the difficulty in the areas that aren't the city's general area it is too high for a player to "accidentally never find it"
>>
>>339884870
the entire thing is a lot of idiocy. they probably originally had the vault closer to diamond city in the middle, but then someone had the 'genius' idea if they shoved the vault int he top corner it made a very simplified difficulty rise so they stuck with it.

all i ever remember is if you actually 'try' and walk straight to Diamond like they expect you go through that fucking shithole with the hundreds of godamn pcp feral ghouls, and that gets not fun and not worth it real fast so you just end up wandering farther out of the way.

no. none of the settlements are. i don't understand why people love this shit so much on any other site. this isn't fucking minecraft or some bullshit.

basically bethesda got fucking lazy and wanted the player to make the big towns instead. yeah you can do that, but your self-built towns have no substance. no real characters. no real stories. nothing beside generating items and caps for you. no quests to be done. no lore to discover. nothing. custom content made by the player that does nothing except waste your time

Bethesda can't make big towns because players get confused. They're a billion dollar company, with (supposedly) seven years of development time. If they wanted to, they could have made a game significantly more complex than what they did. Writing would still be shit, but they keep the gameplay and world dumbed down for the casual audience because that's where the big bucks come from.

It's the reason for
>simplified dialogue
>simplified RPG elements
>more focus on gunplay and movement
>tiny towns
>lack of settlement depth
>lack of weapon crafting depth
>most quests being "go here, kill x"
>every quest being spoon fed with objective markers
Casuals don't like the stuff that makes RPGs good, so Bethesda cut it
>>
>>339880776

We want the Mass Effect and Minecraft audiences.
>>
>>339892263
the casual audience has been asking for bigger towns and better content since forever
>>
>>339892492
No it hasn't. They fucking love it. 3, 4, and Skyrim are big hits. NV was a very modest success, and 3/4 fans are actually hostile to it.
>>
The only thing I liked about settlements was how Bethesda was made them seem more like a tower defense thing than a sims game.

But all I got was "_____ is under attack", fast travel, and then help my pipe pistol wielding settlers fight off five raiders that had spawned inside my junk wall. Could've been something awesome if the radiant quests weren't so dull and pointless and if the settlers actually did more than stand next to the crops all day and night.
